The Chameleon Orchestra
started on a live Concert of the Marva+Maschg-)Klan( MMK)
in the legendary Berlin Underground Club I.M. Eimer in 1997.
The MMK was performing some tracks of"the virtual character show".
when DJ Flex aka Bracula entered the stage with a few
breakbeat vinyls and asked if it was okay that he´d try to cut in some
breakbeats.(!)
Marva Mk said "okay - lets give it a try" and Flex jammed directly
to the dark stompin Elektro Beats of the MMk.
He quickly put small paper-Stickers on the vinyls to create perfectly fitting loops
witch the backjumping and tumbling Pickups of the misused Technics Mk2
record Players.By live cutting and tuning these noises he also created
tiny noisy melodies wich added a weird open element wich seemed
to suit both the mmk and the audience very well.
Flex also fitted well to MMKs live performance.
Marvamk was jumping around like a freaked out shadowboxer and shouting
DJ Flex was rocking the decks by scratching also with his hands and his feet.
This was the day when they started their collaboration.
After some commercial and more calm live gigs at different locations like IFA and TRESOR Berlin and some studio projects the afrogerman Blackmusic Singer Ngozi Madubuko joined the project for Cd that was produced at Synlabor a small artists coop label in Berlin.
2000 they put they produced the CD "talking to a broken airplane".
The tracks are loosely playing around with the theme of having black
humour in the very middle of a catastrophe.
more info and pics and track whenever possible.
