Suggestion: Allow direct download of OGG Vorbis archives

Hi,

Currently, all torrents' seeding needs to be hand-enabled by moderators, which requires users to inform them of the specific albums (as reported here).

I suggest, that you enable direct downloading of OGG Vorbis Album archives, preferably in .7zip format.

If you too suffer from the current state of OGG Vorbis Album availability, please inform the Jamendo team of this by commenting on this thread.

I was really hoping that, with time, the widget was going to be updated into something useful and nice but it seems that I was wrong...

Seriously guys! The widget is primitive it lack so many options! Here are a few,

- Randomize the playlist,
- Set the default volume level,
- Color options (Different player style would be nice too! Why can't we have one that looks like the on on Jamendo's website?),
- An option to pop out the widget in a new window,

Tags used on jamendo not the ones in the xml dump?

I got yesterday's xml dump loaded into my own mysql db and I notice that the tags aren't the ones that show up on Jamendo. Some albums have tags on the website, but none in the dump; and some tags which show up in the db dump don't show up on the website.

Is there another tag table that's not in the dump?

I just downloaded the most recent xml dump and am planning to put the data into an SQL database.

Although the structure is pretty clear from the wiki description, I would like to know the max length of all the character fields.

I'm also wondering if location is in another database table, and maybe has ids which aren't dumped into the xml?

It would be great to post some generic SQL on the wiki to create a compatible table structure -- I'm sure I'm not the only one who would benefit.

Single track ratings sugestion.

Inside the album page.
Every track has a visible 1-5 stars bar and it can be rated by users (just like youtube videos: 5-awesome, 4-pretty cool, 3-worth listening, 2-nothing special, 1-poor).
Every track has a visible popularity bar based on number of listenings (like spotify song list).

It might be also interesting for the user to navigate inside the top100 rated/popular songs. If he like one, he always can check out the album/artist.

I know Jamendo is album oriented but this functionality is compatible with that, isn't it?

What do you think?

Maintainance webpage: Don't autoplay anything

Hello,

when jamendo.com is in maintainance mode, some music is played automatically by one of the widgets. Please disable this "autoplay"-feature. Its not only a generals dislike of such features: I've implemented a browser plugin into my jamendo-player so that user can easily interact with the community and watch your ads ;). When your page is in maintainance-mode this means that the user is forced to hear the music and - probably - won't even know where it comes from.

If you need to have this autoplay-thing enabled, perhaps you could tell me a way to find out, which page I am watching: I cannot do that on my own, since you aren't in maintainance any more ;). Is there a specific maintainance-url that I could catch?

Hello there, I'm not sure if this is the place to say it, but the concerts page is not paginating. The links for the pages are correct, and the URL goes where it says, but the content displayed is the same as in the first page.

is it possible to change the order of the items in the virtual shops? Under "Manage your virtual shop" it says: "Follow this link to manage your Collectors' items (edit, reorder, etc.)." However, I can't seem to figure out how to reorder the items...

tags: who is entitled to tag??

With the new design it is not possible to tag - a great loss.

It looks like a kind of censorship as someone seems to be able to put tags (some new albums hav tags ohters not) but the dumb masses of people cant put tags. Bad! Please stop censorship!

CC=closed community?

Many regular users, not only me, are very annoyed by this. We inspire the (german) branch since months to raise that issue but there is no response at all!

I don't want write reviews if I'm not allowed to tag properly.

Loved jamendo once, no it turns ugly.

Every Time I downloaded an Album from Jamendo I found that in the ID3 Tags the Track Numbers are missing. :cry:
It's not a big thing but it should be easy for the developers to change this! :wink:

There is an option to submit, but it doesn't seem to work. My Last.fm app works. My libre.fm app works too if I play from Music. However, neither post if I use the Jamendo app. Other than that, works well. Playlists are a little funky and I'd like to be able to tie it to my account here, but very functional for finding and listening to music.

I was looking forward to this feature returning to Jamendo, but I have to say I'm disappointed in the implementation. In its present form, it is useless to me.

Let me cover the entire list from top to bottom:

Title: On the page it is simply: ARTSomerville in concert.
Problem: The performing artist for this concert is the Metal & Glass Ensemble, one of the groups that performs frequently for ARTSomerville. There is no way to edit this field. For this event, the title is wrong.

Picture: This is the cover of the first ever album published by ARTSomerville.
Problem: This is not a picture of the group that will be performing and has no relevance to the upcoming concert. There is no way to change the picture or simply omit it if it is incorrect.

Date and Time: 14/11/09, 20:00
Problem: The US standard for the date is MM/DD/YY, not DD/MM/YY. Most people in the US use a 12 hour clock with AM/PM, not a 24 hour clock. We don't want audience members showing up on the wrong date or time. Also, including the name of the day of the week (Friday, Saturday, etc.) would be a good idea to remove any ambiguity.

Map: Off by a few miles, but that's Google.
Problem: No way to edit or correct the map. No option to not show the map if it is wrong. No way to add the text "WARNING: THIS MAP IS WRONG! DO NOT USE THIS MAP!" So at this point, our audience members not only set out at the wrong time on the wrong date, they get hopelessly lost as well.

Learn more about this concert: Could benefit from some way to format the text.
All the text runs together. There are no line breaks and no way to insert any. There are no basic text formatting options. A minimum of bold and italics would be nice, but in any case, fix the line breaks. Without line breaks the text looks horrible.

Each of these items is more or less a deal killer and render the entire concert announcement feature useless.

My upload crashed twice before I succeeded - now I'm admin (jegelie) to three times the same artist (Joost Egelie). It doesn't look very professional.
In the list of artists there is three times "Joost Egelie", and only one of them holds the actual album. Which one is also random - every day it could be the first, second or third entry...

Hello, Jamendo-DEV-team: there really should be a DELETE-button for deleting artists that are entered mistakenly. It is an ADMIN-page after all, isn't it?

please make JamPlayer not repeat (or give me a choice)

I really hate the way JamPlayer loops; can't it just go quiet after playing an album or playlist to completion? Or be able to choose whether to loop or not?

I'm trying to sample a bunch of new music as I go about my work, and because if the repeat mode I have to pay much more attention to JamPlayer than should be necessary to do this. I end up listening to the same thing five times instead of getting to hear five new albums!

What I'd really like is the ability to add albums or tracks to a queue to be played by JamPlayer at the end of the current selection. I tried creating a temporary playlist for this, but JamPlayer doesn't notice that tracks have been added to a playlist once it's started playing one. Having that work would be an option, but I'd rather not have to have a playlist at all to choose something for JamPlayer to play next.

Would be great if there was an easy way to share tracks, albums and artists discovered on Jamendo on Facebook as a post on your wall, similar to the way you can do it with YouTube videos. You can of course just post a link to the relevant page, but it would be cooler if a Flash player or embedded MP3 object would appear directly in the wall post.

Internal server error when querying the API

I am developing Pyjama and experiencing a huge error: When trying to query Jamendo my app throws an exception due to an server error: "HTTPError: HTTP Error 500: Internal Server Error"

When I query the server manually, it works perfect.

Does anyone have an idea, what the problem might be?

Lyrics API

Automated fetching of lyrics (as for example done by Amarok - amarok.kde.org) via HTTP isn't very trivial with current API design (or maybe the easy solution is just not documented?).

Anyway, currently it's necessary to provide the track id to fetch lyrics (or processes the usual web page - which honestly sucks), now to get the track id one has to do quite some queries (artist -> albums -> album ids -> trakcks -> track ids -> select right id -> fetch lyrics ... or something like that). I probably don't have to describe why this is totally s***.

As a matter of fact it would be best, mosty preferable, totally wonderful to do a query for plain text lyrics with just one URL, maye something like:
http://www.jamendo.com/en/get/lyrics/plain/ARTIST/TRACK/ALBUM
by processing everything in lower case the specification of artist, track AND album almost eliminates the possability of wrong results, though in case the lyrics "aren't available" (i.e. wrong arguments) it still would make sense to offer _some_ _very_ similar combinations (though that's really not very high priority for such an API adaption).

To sum up. It would be really cool to be able to fetch a song's lyrics by providing arists, track and album within one URL.
One last thing: Jamendo rocks!!!! :-D

Hi all

I would like to submit an idea to make jamendo even easier for beginners to find music they will like. As a jamendo-user I still am a little overwhelmed by all the music found on jamendo. Tags is a great way to start, but I want to propose a system that will make it even easier. You'll probably have seen this on lots of internet radio-stations like last.fm, but this is a little bit different. The idea is that you type in a name of an artist you like (for example Coldplay or Bruce Springsteen) and then jamendo-music that's similar to that artist will pop up, and them you can filter these results by popularity, downloadcount, rating,... This will make it easier for beginners because it will help them find great music on jamendo by searching by an artist they already know (and like). What do you think? It would require much work to get this system up and running, but I think it would be worth it.

Today I changed my password to a more secure one. It is something like "UDmD881Y1vhvgtfuAY0Im8_L3PEpLkVv" (PW Generator from KeePassX). In Firefox, where I changed it, it works. Now I want to log in from Songbird but it doesn't work. Any ideas?

Are there any other limitations on the Password? Why is it limited to 32 Characters?

For a program extension Jamendo to songbird I want to get the country per album. At the site HTTP when I browse album the flag country is graphic per album. I like the symbol graphic, I can write my own program to connect data country to a graphic.

What is the query to get country album. I think its not in the API, I think someone should write it in the API...among other requests that I've read.

Sylvinus I noticed you monitor the forums, I am thankful for your support personal. I read one post related to problems security API. However as possible try to improve the API, at every request. For example write every request somewhere then order them for problems security, priority, etc...

How to use json asynchronous in javascript

I created a program asynchronous that gets data format json, I want to access the data in javascript for example Data[0].id to get ID. If the data from a query asynchronous is stored in an object undefined then data is inaccessible. If the data is copied from a query in browse then put in the program stored in an object undefined then the data is accessible.

For a certain query, the length data accessible is 11. The length data inaccessible (asynchronous) is length 4000+. I think the problem is related to how the data is stored (type objects?) and my inability to program the access.

some code is subsequent (requests asynchronous for data from other sites is functional) -- is there a command to put text as code in the forum?

How to get a download URL for a particular track

I'm writing a little script that's supposed to take in a streaming song's URL, check if I already have the song in my collection and otherwise download it. With it I could listen to a stream, exclaim "Ooh! I like this song," and press a button to fetch it for keeps.

I can't find how to get the URL for an mp3/ogg download with the get2 API. There are some examples in the doc that show how to get a stream. Is there a similar way to get a download?

Well , as the title says, I can't listen to anything on jamendo. Yes, i know there have been lots of topics about this, but the solutions to them don't help me. I want to use the widget for my new album on my myspace, so people can hear my new album. Except they can't, because it doesn't work.

Well, i am really unhappy about this and until Jamendo fixes the problem I'll be using different players on my myspace, and I probably won't upload anything more here.

First of all, thanks a lot for offering this great platform to creative
and independent music artists and their listeners, people that have the
philosphy that music should be because of the matter itself and not to
make lots of money. Artists who want to contribute to the society,
and they're helping them a lot as many people might not notice. But
music is everywhere and in our days, everyone just chooses the music
he/she wants to listen depending on the mood or occasion. Therefore
musicans help other people in difficult situations but also can create
an awesome athmosphere and happiness. I really appreciate that more and
more people - artists, listeners, supporters (like the jamendo-staff
i.e.) - appreciate and seem to realise this. And that more and more
people try to reclaim the music for the public as it has always been in
the past, although it seems that this became even more difficult in the
last few years (and the mad idea of a copyright extension to 95 years
lately??? just insane!!!). So please keep up the good work with jamendo,
I really appreciate this.

The reason for writing you is, despite thanking you, that I wanted to
ask if their are any efforts to offer IPv6 yet. I recently signed up
for an IPv6 tunnel (which is not diffcult by the way) and I don't see
any disadvantages. Google is already supporting IPv6
(http://ipv6.google.com) or also TPB recently started supporting IPv6
(http://ipv6.thepiratebay.com). Wikipedia seems to work on it at the
moment (http://wikitech.wikimedia.org/view/IPv6_deployment). As Jamendo
is standing for a free society, I thought that you might be interested
in supporting IPv6, as it offers any-to-any connections. Especially for
Jamendo I thought about the following scenarios where IPv6 would be a
great advantage:
- Imagine, someone is inviting their friends to a party and they say:
Hey that's awesome music you're playing there where and how can I get
it? With IPv6 they could just connect to the guys router (wireless or
wired) which also supports IPv6 with their mobile devies (palm,
cellphone, laptop?) and they'd start their their torrent clients and
automatically get a global IPv6 address (stateless autoconfiguration).
Because of the better routing hierarchy, the router would automatically
detect they're all on the same "local" subnet and therefore a lot
greater bandwidth capacities would be offered, especially with
peer-to-peer networks like bittorrent. And of course people from outside
of my local network would profit too as port forwarding is obsolete from
IPv6 on (I experienced it sometimes that I could not download some
ogg-music-files because I couldn't enable port forwarding and the other
torrent-clients were behind a NAT too. The result was, that we
couldn't reach each other.).
So to sum it up, sharing music would become a lot easier with IPv6 on
the user-side and easier to manage a network for administrators as
lots of new mechanisms offer more "plug-n-play-features". And we all
have to switch in a few years anyway as there are so less IPv4 addresses
left which will make them pretty expensive in the future as well :).

As a side-effect of Jamendo switching to IPv6, I could also imagine,
that you might get a lot more media attention as well, as you'de be one
of the IPv6 pionieers and websites advertising and explaining IPv6 would
very likely refer to Jamendo as an exemplary service provider with a
good moral ideology :). And I think there are going to be a lot of
companies and media which are being interested in all these IPv6 things
this year as we are coming closer and closer to the end of IPv4
addresses.

So finally I want to thank you for your consideration and I would be
glad to here your point of view and interest to this topic and your
capabilites for a transition (does your ISP offer IPv6?).
