    Hi!

We'll soon allow artists to tell which software they used to make/record/mix/... their music.

    We've begun a list here :
    http://www.jamendo.com/en/get2/name/tag/plain?type=software&n=all&order=alpha_asc

Please tell us if you use a software that's not in the list, and we'll add it! (wikipedia entry mandatory)

    thanks!

    Hello
heres my suggestions, im sorry if its pretty long
I think there are 2 inappropriate entries there..
Ubuntu Studio and ReWire shouldn't be on that list.
Cos Ubuntu Studio is an OS, just like Windows, so if youre going to inculde Ubuntu Studio there, you might as well include Windows XP and Mac OS :-)
hmm, and ReWire itself is not a software to make music, it's a software protocol to connect different music apps.

btw (OT), is there a limit to how long a comments can be.? cos i failed each time i try to post this comment originally.. (this one is just a part of the original comment)

yes you're right we could include windows and osx as well. I think we can afford being pretty large in what we consider "software" : actual software, oses, standards, ...

    thx!

    Continue...

I just noticed LADSPA is on the list.
hmm, its actually a plugin standard for effects and such. so, im not really sure if its proper or not, but if by LADSPA you mean all LADSPA plugins then it could be allright.
    similar like LADSPA are

    VST http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Studio_Technology
    Audio Units (AU) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_Units
    LV2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LV2
    RTAS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Time_AudioSuite

btw, since youre including GNU Lilypond, then you might want to include Sibelius, and Finale too (those are 2 other popular music notation software that i know of)

  2.  permalink
hmm, then a nice categorization could be useful,
    like for example:

    Host Sequencer : Reason
Instruments : Absynth, Rebirth, Reason, and Reaktor
    Effects: Amplitube, and Guitar Rig
    Notater : GNU Lilypond

oh, another one not yet on the list
    Reaper http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/REAPER
Brad Sucks uses it for his album

there are 2 other sequencer id like to suggest for inclusion, EnergyXT and Mu.Lab, but they dont have a wiki yet.. and im not sure if anyone here actually use them :-)

I could list hundreds of other software that people might use here, but since i havent actually be an artist here, then ill just stop for now :-)

    There is another software:

Accoustica DJ Twist & Burn. This software is used for adding effects to existing audio files etc.

But there isn't any info available about it on the Wikipedia encyclopaedia.

    Thanks!

We won't do any categorization, the goal is to have a list and make pages like jamendo.com/software/ladspa where we can see all the music made with ladspa plugins.

so any piece of code (or standard) is welcome :)

Check the wiki, I've been trying. In general Jamendo doesn't suggest things to the artists so I don't know where you could fit into the site itself.

Perhaps in the list all free software could have (free) after it's name so Jamendo artists will have some idea of which programs they could try out for free.

I used OpenMPT for my EP. It doesn't have a Wikipedia article on it, but its closed-source predecessor, ModPlug Tracker, does.
It's apparently in development hell (no new version since May 2007), it has a few issues and a rough GUI, and it's missing a lot of features that modern VST-supporting trackers like Renoise and MadTracker (another program you should add, by the way) offer, but it's good enough for people that need a free VST host. Plus, you can go "01[) 5|<001|" and make sample-based modules the old, hard way.
Honestly, after using it I'm constantly being torn between scraping Windows off my hard drive and starting to use Linux, and spending a large sum on at least Renoise, Tracktion, or anything more comfortable. The latter is the much more likely option.
Why do you only list programs that have articles on Wikipedia? Is that because of notability or something? And where does the information we fill in there go?

CoolEdit 2000 (or some other variety) is a popular wave editor. I think I might have used it on one of my earlier Drum n Bass albums (not yet posted, but on its way). Also, Cex (hip hop / idm, signed to tigerbeat6 IIRC) I think uses it.
    For synths:
I use Synth1 a lot (a really tight free synth -- check it out)...
Also: Garritan's Personal Orchestra, Synful Orchestra

Although this is not fashionable as open source programs seem to be what everyone is quoting, I use Cubase SX3 and Ableton Live 7 Suite.

I noticed some other programs such as N-Tracks, Energy XT and Max/MSP (Max is the audio component, MSP MIDI), Notion and Magix Music Studio and SAWStudio.

I also noticed that although Cubase and Samplitude were mentioned, their higher end cousins Nuendo (Cubase's big brother) and Sequoia (Samplitude's big brother) were not mentioned.

    Hi guys,

I've done an update with your suggestions and others. I've added all those which had a wikipedia page, which is our criteria for inclusion. (by the way, feel free to create those pages!)
    * Audiomulch
    * CoolEdit 2000 => I think it has been renamed Adobe Audition ? which we already have
    * Qjackctl
    * MusE

Nuendo and Sequoia don't have a page yet, same for Synth1 and others. add them and tell us here :)

Good idea, but I'd use another approach- A list of all audio software will probably be almost infinite, and waaaay too much work to maintain. Why not use a tag-like approach, I.E a text entry field + a "add software" button.
    And btw, I don't use software ;)
