I got an email from Jamendo wanting me to fill out Attestation paper work, but then I got a bunch of other emails stating that it was a scam. I typed "Attestation" into the search, but got nothing. Is this legit? I want to get Disappearance of Anna out so other people can down load it, but it is invisible right now, I cannot find it under Industrial (where it should be) or Rock (where they put it). I am guessing that I need to send this paper work, but find it odd that it is not mentioned on the site.

Either way, how do I get my music where people can find it? I looked at every page on "Rock" which is where is should be per the Jamendo Genre, but it was not there. "Appear in album lists on Jamendo" has an "X". I would like to make a few cents off this if I can, but if not I really just wanted to get our music out there.

okay, well, that makes sense. that basically looks like a contract-type piece of formality. yeah, i guess it's legit. i don't know. maybe i'll get one of those soon enough. i just signed up for the partnership programs today.

if you want to make any money off of your record jamendo is like, the worst place to do it. not that jamendo is a bad website, but you have to realize that this is a website based on giving music away for free. that said though, i do have some helpful hints for you to promote your record.

    1. social networking sites are a good way to harass people into listening to your band. myspace is pretty much an easy way for people to get an idea of what you're all about. apparently facebook is also a good way to harass people into checking you out. i guess because you can start up fan groups and shit, but honestly i didn't personally find it all that helpful. but hey, it's all about getting the word out, right?

    2. GET THE WORD OUT. of course there will be people who randomly stumble onto you, but assume that unless you actively seek fans out, they won't come to you. you have to be really careful though. if you market yourself too aggressively, people will think you're a dick and no one will support your expensive coke habit.

    3. get little bit of money and put a press package together. this is especially important if you plan on taking yourself seriously as an artist.

    4. once again, invest in a little bit of money and make some cd-r's up. send them out to local college radio stations as well as independent newspapers and magazines. basically, there are lots of publications who focus more on independent music. those are the ones you need to hit up, particularly the ones who focus on your niche. and definitely don't be afraid to send it to any publication who focuses mainly on your genre of music.

the reason i tell you to make up some cd's is because almost no one reviews digital downloads unless it's from someone established, or perhaps during a netlabel review.

Yeah, I didn't think I would be able to quit my day job, but if they can bing in some coins that would be cool. They do not pay out until you quit of earn $100, so I figure I have a while before getting to that point. :)

    Thanks for the help.

Well, I went ahead and sent it. Now I just wait and see if this certifies me. I am tired of seeing that "X" in the Appear in "album lists on Jamendo" spot. I really want to see a check mark.
