This sounds like a good idea; this can certainly be done for torrents, and maybe the Jamendo system otherwise supports more than one mirrors for a given file? (sylvinus?)
    What space can you contribute?

yes the python system does replication and balancing automatically so no problem adding servers with only part of the files ;-)

Since it's been told already a few times that running a tracker is not the easiest to do, what about just using Magnet URI?

Wouldn't that annihilate a lot of problems? Plus users could safely rename the files as they please and still seed them.

    What about a Web Seed?

I don't really know how to set up it, but maybe it is possible to limit bandwidth per file. This way, if we limit (and at the same time, warrant) each file to, for instance, 1 kbps... each file would have this 1kbps seeding ensured. Or, even better, if the total available bandwidth is X kbps, this X kbps could be split PER FILE amongst the active downloads.

I guess that in terms of software, what is needed is:
    * Put the files in a web server. (limiting bandwidth if wanted)
    * Change the "torrent" files to point to the webseed.

 :cheer:  :cheer:  :cheer:

PS: There could be a "preview button" here!

Yeah, in another thread I'm asking about webseeds as well. That'd be awesome!

How does the very first seeder gets to seed any way?

Jamendo does publish the torrent, right? But who seeds it the very first time? When does this seeding ceases?

If I wanted to seed an album... how do I get the file to seed, in the first place?

I'm not quite familiar with webseed but it seems to be a really nice idea.
To get the first seeder, as we know that every album (I hope) is hosted on the Jamendo's server, so we can download them from their server and add the files into the created torrent folder.

    Just an idea...
I will see how works a webseeder.

My dedicated server (1gbit + 160GB) will be glad to participate to this project ^^

    At
    http://developer.jamendo.com/en/wiki/OggVorbis
they say you should contact them to volunteer as "OGG mirror".

But I guess you need much more storage then you have.

I am found of the webseed idea because I think people should have support to use ogg AND torrent. Not having seeders is really disappointing. Of course it is easier to simply provide the OGG zipped album, but with limited resources (bandwidth), it is a very good idea to strengthen the torrent infrastructure.

    Thank you andrecaldas.
It is indeed not sufficient for a real mirror. May be in a couple of months I will mount a good computer on an optic fiber connection (But it won't be 100M, may be 10 or 20M)

I really prefer torrent infrastructure too ! The underlying idea that every one share is preferable IMO.

    Hi all;

I am seeding all the available albums from the ID 0 to 2999. We are searching for volunteers to seed all the OGG albums. If you are interested, you can read more here[1]. :boogie:

    @dudumomo:

A "web seed" is just a copy of the torrent's content on a web server — i.e. available via HTTP or FTP.

Some BitTorrent clients are able to handle such "web seeds" as if they were torrent seeds.

Just in case this hasn't been presented there's a way to use the direct-download method to begin seeding torrents through Jamendo's trackers.
For later use in this guide, an album number is in the URL (Address Bar) of the web-page you're looking at while looking at an albums play-list.

    "http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/<album number>"

If you can make an empty html with a link than use this method for the link's URL..

    "http://www.jamendo.com/get/album/id/album/archiverestricted/redirect/<album number>/?p2pnet=bittorrent&are=ogg3"

This will download a zip file of quality 7 Vorbis codec Ogg files. The zip file wont have a directory structure it's self, but it's file name is identical (and it's content's) to the torrent.

So after it's downloaded create a new folder inside of the folder your torrents download to. Next open the Rename file on your newly download zip file, except instead of renaming it, select the file name minus the ".zip" at the end, and copy the file's name ("Ctrl" + "C"). Next rename your newly made folder by allowing yourself to edit the folder's name and, pasting your copied text into it ("Ctrl" + "V")

You should now have a folder with a near identical name to the Zip file of Ogg files you downloaded. Next, extract the Zip file into your new folder.

Now go to the albums page at Jamendo which will be at:

    "http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/<album number>"

Click on download, if you haven't set-up your Jamendo account, and it isn't set-up to automatically download Ogg Torrents, click on the Ogg BitTorrent link. Open the "*.torrent" file. Upon opening the torrent you should notice your torrent software verifying the files already on your computer. Add the torrent to you query, and congratulations! You're now seeding Creative Commons media in Vorbis Codec inside of an Ogg Format.

Snif, finally I have "only" 5M upload FTTC, but with 2TB for Jamendo.

I've started to download every OGG albums, however difficult for a torrent software to handle a lot of torrent.
At 3000 or 4000 active torrents, the computer is quite unstable.
I will try to improve that but not sure..

Doing a HTTP server consumes far less ressources but well... torrent is my favorite xD

    Awesome!

When I played around with x000 torrents I found µtorrent to be the best client, even if you run it with Wine (but that was more than a year ago).

rtorrent can handle more active torrents, but it will not handle much more than deluge...

Webseed can be a solution, but it is not up to me, it's up to Jamendo staff...
But I'm sure we can do something....(However, I doubt whereas we can have support from Jamendo Staff...)

The trick for downloading ogg albums directly seems to work for new albums. Just downloaded an album added July the 13th.

Hey all, I have a nifty script.

The downloader script for unix-like systems is mostly done and available here:

    http://www.koolhoven-home.net/jmadt

    Usage is: jmadt ALBUM-URL

It will need the execudable flag activate, "chmod +x jmadt" in shell.
It's designed to parse the input URL. If it can find a valid alum number in it, it will. If it can't it'll say the input format is invalid.

The script depends on bash (and may work with dash), wget, unzip, and transmission-gtk, make sure you have these before running it!

The basic's. The script will get the OGG files for an album from Jamendo and make them torrentable. It will also generate an artistname directory and link the album name to the original torrentable files.

    The details
The script will unzip the files into a torrentable directory inside transmission's default torrent directory. It will then download the torrent and load it into transmission-gtk. After that, it extracts the Artist's name and Album name from the downloaded file and attempts to make a directory in "~/Music" for the album name, it'll then also make a symbolic link to the downloaded files in transmission's torrent directory.

If you use Banshee you'll probably have to tell it to "Rescan Media", Rhythmbox should notice the new files instantly.

For any more info I recommend running it with "--help"
  7.  permalink
Also, the script only has support for english URL pages so far. Feel free to add in more support, or just change the script to support your language. I made sure to make it clearly commented and it should be pretty easy to figure out.

Just look for the parts with URLs and replace the areas which have "en" with whatever Jamendo puts in the URL for your language.

Version update tp 0.0.7 corrects a potential bug in the torrent URL generator. There was a chance that an extra digit would prevent correct URL resolution. I modified the method the script uses to generate it's torrent URL.

Run jmadt --version to see what you have.

Good idea to write a script for this, I'll check it out later. I run Ubuntu so I can test it.

Adjusting the host to act more like a mainframe. My recommendation is to just go to http://www.koolhoven-home.net/david/ since that should stay my space on it. I wont be posting much more here unless something major comes up. I'll be posting more formal change logs and such at the website.

Is ogg torrent downloading still possible for new albums? Clicking on ogg torrent for album 106743 gives a 404. Tried an older album and that still worked. Or am I just not patient enough
