First of all: please, don't feel personally attacked if the wording gets a bit harsh, I tend to that if I'm not fully convinced of something. I don't want to troll! ;)
1. Of course, this shouldn't be an important point, but it's the most important way to attract listeners: the cover art. And that first one looks quite shabby. Tips: read tutorials and "how-to-do" stuff for your program (I assume it's GIMP or Photoshop; I use GIMP myself), that's the fastest way to advance. If you don't like tutorials (I don't^^), here are some tips: color gradients can look beautiful. Use shadows. And layer masks (they control the transparency of layers). If you don't know how, google it.
2. This is not part of the "but...": the melodies are nice enough, I'm quite sure that there are people who would like them. I don't, but that's taste; they're even more cheerful than my most cheerful stuff. :D
3. Now, the most important part: as marac already mentioned, the sounds sound way too cheap. That doesn't mean you have to spend money! First, there are many awesome free synths and sounfonts in the web just waiting for you to use them. Examples: Synth1, Tal Elek7ro, Tal NoiseMaker, Independence Free, Kore Player, and, for example, this very nice Orchestra Soundfont package: http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1200140
Also very important for the sound: MIX YOUR STUFF. That is a incredibly huge topic so just the most important stuff to make your sounds sound more precious:
- use good reverbs, and most of the time big ones, but be sure not to make it too loud because your sound gets too washy otherwise. Example for a free reverb VST: GlaceVerb (has got very nice presets, too).
- use an equalizer on every instrument. Reduce the nasty or muddy frequencies of it and maybe push those frequencies who sound nice on the instrument. For example, the guitar in your song hums/booms very much at my place, I can't really hear its notes -> reduce the low mids/the lows.
- use a compressor, a distortion (only for artistic purposes, for example a synth that is supposed to sound nasty) or a clipper on every instrument in order to make it easier to crank up the song's loudness in the mastering. But don't overcompress or use compression badly: It can make everything sound weak.
And don't forget: the Jamendo stream will always sound worse to the original file as it uses a very low bitrate (92kbp/s MP3 I think) for streaming! (I listened to the downloaded file to make sure I hear the full quality before reviewing.)
My two cents, I hope you give my music a try. ;)
Never heard something like this: a mixture of pop-rock-world-elecro. The flute melody is nice, maybe there is a little to work with the sound (compression and stereodize). But the way the melodic and the drums are ok, so that 10/10 !
The melody is much too simple for my liking, but that's the matter of taste. On a more objective note, the quality of samples is terrible. Particularly a flute sounds totally artificial and unnatural.
However, if it is your first composition, it is not bad at all. Many popular artists started from much lower level. Work hard and who knows?
For a first offering, it is simple, but is an attempt to express yourself. Nothing wrong with that. As you work with your program you'll find ways of slurring flue & other woodwind sounds. With this the flute sounds too staccato, as if if key press were tongued on the flute, whereas it should be more fluid-like. At approximately 1:37 into it the "gong/cymbal" crash seemed to have vibrato/tremelo on it, and that defeats that sound, a sound of brash power. Keep trying, my friend. There are a multitude of artists here to listen to and learn from!
