About this album

  • Published: 18/06/2013

This album is the result of DJ Spooky's art residency at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. Of Water and Ice is a composition for string quartet and video that evolved out of his large-scale multimedia work Sinfonia Antarctica: an exploration of the composition of ice and water, and our relationship to the vanishing environment of the arctic poles. DJ Spooky created The Book of Ice based on his travels to the poles.

All of the electronic sounds are generated by interpretations of either algorithms that mirror the geometry in ice crystals or the math of climate change data.

Track : Nocturne

Nocturne has a dark symphonic feel with elegantly used synthesizer tones.

This is not the type of music I usually listen to but the description of how it came about intrigued me. Once I started listening I had to hear the whole thing. Looking forward to whatever project comes next!

Sets a cool but energetic tone

I am using excerpts of this music in the non-commercial Wow! Signal Podcast, and much of it really works well for setting just the tone I am looking for. Plus, hundreds of people who had never heard of DJ Spooky have now.

Lux Aeterna?

Track : Of Water and Ice (feat. Jin-Xiang "JX" Yu)

Nice piece! Reminds me in parts of Clint Mansell's Lux Aeterna. By chance?

Check out my Trap Remix

Classic DJ Spooky right here. Nice cinematic feel. Now I took that and changed it completely to come up with a 150bpm Trap Remix that will really bump in the club! Check it:

I like this track. How many bpm has it? Could you state this? I would like to make a remix for the contest
