About this album

  • Updated: 30/11/2007
Softspace, an electronica artist from England, debuted on Musictrade in November 2005 on the Requiems for a Submerged City compilation (MT005). This is his first full length release on the label, presenting his beautiful and rich synth soundscapes in the form of 11 new songs.

Softspace has been playing synths for almost 3 decades. His early influences were artists like Wendy Carlos, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk; lately he has enjoyed ambient/electronica artists like Biosphere and Tetsu Inoue.

"This album is really driven by the energy of sound", characterizes Softspace. "I've been fascinated by the ability of sound to affect our emotions, and with the synthesizer the sound palette available to the artist has really exploded. Each track on this album is unique in emotion, yet part of the larger soundscape. To put a rough label on it, the music is in the vein of experimental minimalist tradition, primarily based on keyboard improvisations subjected to further electronic production. Main keyboard instruments used were Access Virus, Novation and Roland V."

There are two kinds of tracks on this album: 1. Those which try to be music - they aren't that good. 2. Those who are experimental ambient sounds - these are pretty decent! PS: Write some tags!

This has been a favorite album of mine since I first heard it some time ago. It is good to see it being made more widely available on Jamendo. Thanks from a fan!

I feasted hungrily on the likes of Tangerine Dream when I was a child, Rubicon being my favourite and I never thought I would hear an album that would even match what I felt when I heard that music. Well done softspace, you've filled an empty space by your sculpting of time AND space, and turning it into something truly transcendental. Thank you.

Leaping from 5-7 metres.

This album has an impact sound less strong (comparable to a dive from 5-7 metres) than "Synaptic Activity", which for me is tantamount to a dive from 10 metres or more. No need then prepare to listen .... The same music helps you in the journey. There are many beautiful tracks. For example with "Loons" I felt in the Amazon forest and with "Improvised One" followed by "Off Her Lipsin" in a warm atmosphere spiritual.

Superbe !
