Comme dans les autres critiques, je commence par saluer le mélange de styles parfaitement maitrisé ici... du jazz au ska tout en nuances... Moi je classerai cet album dans rock progressif/jazz... Ca m'a fait penser, au moins sur quelques passages à King Crimson et surtout à Mahavishnu orchestra. C'était ma première écoute, j'y reviendrai très vite. On en prend plein les oreilles pendant 25 minutes, on en sort abasourdi mais dans le bon sens du terme, sur le cul quoi !... tant les morceeaux sont vibrants et maitrisés. J'ai lu dans une autre critique un encouragement vers l'electro, moi j'trouve au contraire, qu'il faut garder ce son tel quel, pur, planer entre les styles issus du jazz (rock, prog, ska, punk...) Bravo à vous et bonne continuation.

Jazz punk... ¿qué demonios será eso? Pues esta gente lo saben: Truculent ofrecen un sonido instrumental divertido, colorista y bien trabado. Toques de gipsy, de fanfare, de ska, de jazz también, pero no mucho. Merece la pena una escucha y en directo deben ser divertidísimos. Mola.

The opening of Trucul gave me flashbacks to the wizardry of Les Claypool laying down the funk for Priums, but instead of a whack electric guitar, the accent comes from the clarinet. And they jam like the Mahavishnu Orchestra. Brilliant stuff!

I was intrigued by the "jazzpunk" tag on the album. Great album! It is a very fresh and new sound. I'm quite sure I would have called it jazz punk myself. The classification doesn't seem to quite do the music justice. The jazz influence is quite clear. The music is played with a "punk attitude", but I feel it doesn't borrow too much from the genre musically speaking. One can hear a variety of influences including early progressive rock, Klezmer music, jazz, jam rock, reggae, fusion etc. The point here is that Truculent did a wonderful job of putting together a plethora of music styles which at first may seem to contradict each other. The clarinet in this style of music is very fresh. These days its not very often one hears it outside of Orchestras and Dixieland bands. I hope you guys put out a new album soon. What you've done so far is wonderful and I hope that you continue to push the envelope and create more great music.

Abolutely goddamn amazing! I've never heard mix of jazz and punk and I was pretty happy about that - but these guys changed my point of view. A lot of interesting ideas in their music. Nice to listen to this music when on high ;)

This is pretty cool. I have been looking for a way to make jazz music sound more appealing to a wider public ever since I found out that the drive and overall feeling of "hipness" created by the bebop musicians in the 30's - 50's is in many ways similar to that of punk music. I used to have a band myself that integrated blues solos into guitar-driven punk rock. But I must say, this is really a lot better. It might sound like ska to someone who's never listened to jazz music before, but in my opinion it's jazz. And it's free and hip. And it's great to dance to. I especially love the clarinet. It does some klezmer-like stuff, it develops and sustains the musical themes, and it's also wonderfully noisy. Maybe too noisy in some parts, sometimes the whole band seems to be just out of space, but that's O.K. if you ask me.

Je dois avouer que je ne suis pas réellement attiré par le côté «Punk» de la chose, mais je fus agréablement surpris de constater que ce mélange plutôt inusité dans ma culture m'intéressa de long en large. Les mélodies sont prenantes, la qualité sonore tient la route, les transitions demeurent jolies... bref, c'est du charmant travail ! Un petit côté cocasse s'amène également et on peut l'entendre très clairement à la toute fin de la première piste sous la forme d'une dénaturalisation du son produite par l'instrument. Rien qui ne m'agace personnellement quand même, mais peut-être serait-ce un plus à améliorer (et j'écris ça parce que vraiment, j'apprécie la totalité de l'oeuvre tout en cherchant ce que je pourrais bien dénigrer en apportant une solution la plus constructive possible, adaptée à mes expériences musicales relativement faibles ;-)). Qu'ajouter si ce n'est un grand merci ? Sans doute le souhait d'une longue prospérité au groupe pour que sa richesse artistique ne cesse de croître !

Les trois premiers morceaux sont dignes de Gong (d'ailleurs je pense qu'ils sont fan, ça s'entend), la voix de Daevid Allen en moins, Pour le reste, si vous aimez Weather Report, ça le fera certainement. Du bon, j'en veux encore !!!
