Latin Flavored Reggae

In general I liked the album. Latin rhythms and a reggae beat work for me. Unfortunately the singing leaves a lot to be desired. The opening vocals on the first track "Tres De Cuba" are painful to my ears. The lyrics on "Carnival of Doublespeak" are great but the lead singers voice is thin, flat and reedy. I find the singing on "Anthem" and "Constant Reminder" a lot nicer.

Almost There

This album really got my attention. I don't understand exactly why - but there is definitely a certain je ne sais quoi. II had jamendo playing on random for hours and this was really the only thing that stood out. Rationalizing, I find that this is a band that is almost there. An obvious shortcoming is the ensemble, which combined with the low quality recording suggests an aspiring artist, not a professional one. That being said, it's obvious that this band has a lot of potential. Universal Language for example is really quite cool. The same songs played with a more confidence and ensemble would warrant a 9 - so work hard practicing and performing, I'm looking forward to the next one!
