About this album

  • Updated: 17/03/2008

All track created and produced by Mischapex (Mischa van Balgooy)

This is old stuff. Made with an atari 1040st, boss dr. Synth, Roland ms-1 and a Tascam 4 track taperecorder. My first "mix" album and my first release. Effects: Alesis Microverb 2 and Alesis microverb 3.

For me, when i listen to the tracks nowadays, a lot is 'wrong' with it: tracks are too long, sound quality is bad, balance between percussion, melodies and samples are sometimes bad. Only the ambient track pathos 04 and 08 are really good in my eyes (or ears).

Know that i did't use any effects on the mastering of this album. the mixing of the tracks is done with 1 tape on a tascam 4 track recorder.  1 tape has an A and B side. mixing track 01 into 02 is just "switching sides" whit sweeps, if you listen carefully, you hear a slight change in pitch like a sinus, up and down. This is due to the electro-motor on the tascam tape recorder ;) Luckely, for me this makes the tracks more dreamy in a way.

The compression is also good on Pathos. when i made this album i was unaware of the compression tapes do to recordings. but now i appreciate the excellent quality of this.

A lovely intro, nice manipulation of sounds creating a detailed, purposeful atmosphere. It merges track into track with a wonderful seamless way about it, potentially powerful in it sublimity. There is a load of gorgeous, well-balanced sounds involved, quite busy and by Pathos 03, some beautiful electronica is on the move, seeming to slowly overrule the centre of the stage, at least for a quick, deft display of talented, well-integrated music and voice samples. Nice technological fusion. The musical melee continues, creating continually interesting and engaging sound and rhythm construction. There is a lovely essence of self-effacement in the creation of this beautiful artistic creation. Like a series of paintings that for a greater whole, more than the sum of its parts, definitely an album that warrants repeated observation. It is so complete that it even seems to have its very own water feature. An amazing journey into a sonic world of otherness, very transcendental in general in such a seemingly skilful manner. Pathos 05 is truly dreamlike, certainly a dream of a track, or a track of a dream. Overwhelming ambience in Pathos 06. Pathos 07 is a fantastic piece of fusion with the most unlikely of vocalists, but it works so well, it could have been a fish. In fact, I think it was after a bit. Very animalistic, neo-tribalistic, magical sound and voice fusion and fine instrumentalism. Pathos 08 captures the essence in words about crossing over to another universe, this whole album is one step to the side. Truly postmodern without forgetting its roots and paying a variety of genres fine testimony. Some nice synth work in this one as has gone on before. Althogether, a truly brilliant musical experience. Thanks.
