Hi everybody,

so here it comes, my second album. These songs were mostly recorded between november 2007 and april 2008. I played the bass and piano/LH at the same time. Please do me a favour, dont listen to this album via laptop loudspeaker or similar high end tech stuff, the bass wont be there and all the pieces will sound like esoteric high frequency pling plang :-). The bass is very important. Enjoy this music with good glas of laphroaig at 1 am in the morning, best with a good friend.

Yours Frithjof

And here is some explanation for the album:

_____________________________________________

april. a good mood song. first sunshine. first time that i'm really feeling home in a town i moved to three years ago. parrots sitting in the trees around römerkreis in heidelberg. lingerin in the park on the river. flirting. a coffee in the sun chatting about nonsense gossip. a day, that seems to last forever.

november. heavy days full of rain and red wine. honestly, more red wine than rain. no motivation to do anything and nothing seems to make sense. I'm sitting in my chair in my room staring at an empty wall thinking about what the fuck am I doing here? Wanna throw everything away and go somewhere else. the weather is pushing my mood down, deep down into the blue.

278 meters away is the one you would throw everything away and start a new life with anywhere in the world. and there is no chance to get closer. not physically, and not in any other way. mentally, in a friendship way, not at all. because the time has passed and the chances were missed. and even though this thought keeps you down like the burden of the world lies on your shoulders, the knowledge that this person is in sight somehow cheers you up. you can see the laugh, the smile, the way of doing things, ... and it makes you smile again. makes you remember why you feel the way you do. and that you would do all the same again.

pizza for yaro mai was a cool evening with a drunk russian who turned to a bottle of port even before he had eaten anything. bringing a friend who doesnt drink anything. chatting about the big questions in the world. which just lead to more questions. oh, and this dry russian bread. how can someone like this dry stuff? the bottle from port, is also connected to this. the 'bottle from port' song is NOT originally written by me. Its from this musical my fair lady. its just played by me on this cd here.

falling snow, what could that possibly mean?

dont ask dont tell is are more free improvisation. there is also no wooden bass in this piece. I recorded that piece roughly around new years eve 2007/2008, first week of january. to be honest, I have no idea what I had on my mind when I played that. After all, I just like that piece because its moving and going and evolving continuously. Its never static. It always changes and never sticks to one thing. And it has some nice turns which I find cool. Well, I know that some people dont like that kind of improvising. I do. Because it leads me to places I cant see when I start. And i find this fascinating.

amsterdam has many meaning for me. and, indeed, not all of them are related to drugs. its jaques brel, dans le port d'amsterdam, its freedom, lonelyness in a big town, the absence of people I like, travelling, the ne me quitte pas interpretation by steve, good times, and a lot of things that would take ages to explain.

boys and roses is originally an old german folk song. the unchanged version is played in the very beginning. then it is modified. chords and melody start to change. just, in the very end, to come back to the original and to end like it had begun. This was an interesting job to substitute the chords, to find different interpretations, to put the whole piece into another context.

Good expression on the piano, some moments are a bit "main stream" for my taste, but i like the general movement of the album, eventually a great work.

A man has tales to tell . . . and does so in so many ways . . through his dreams he shares a stream of thought .. . he marks it down with pen and paper . .. he hears a melody in his heart . .. he uses his piano to dance his fingers across . . as he dreams and tells his stories . . small things, deep things, painful things, funny things . .. . to make them real he captures them . . . molds them a little and lets them go like a feathered thing . . . a dove of peace with the gift of a story . . . an experience in its mouth . .. to give to anyone who wants to hear. . its a treasure . . . a beautiful treasure . . this piano music . . . I was touched by these tales and touched by the heart of a man who holds his experiences dear and understands them as deeply profound . . . tales that need to be shared as gifts . . . to us, the listeners .

What a great album. Frithjof's music is living, you can feel it breathe in every single note. The pulsation, retardation, the tension it produces creates an incredible atmosphere. A wonderful work of a young artist. Love, Bastian

Nach Nevertheless eine würdige Fortsetztung. Mir persönlich gefällt dieses Album sogar noch etwas besser als das Erste. Alles in Allem ist diese Musik einfach wunderschön und zum Entspannen!
