About this album

  • Updated: 19/08/2006
A compilation of ten tracks originally put together as a benefit release for Old Pueblo Trolley in Tucson, Arizona, USA.  That project got stalled by politics, however, so I'm putting the thing out into the wild.  A few cuts have seen previous release, and the tracks "Railroaded" and "Industrial Skating" were recorded with the participation of the Tapegerm Collective.

Here the artist makes several various musical statements that work together as a whole as well as each standing alone. From the opening track ("Sonora Ghost Train", a piece that firmly anchors the album in it's geographical and historical and cultural place) to it's closing ("Ambio", an insinuous groove) the artist weaves a soundscape that's coherent and competent and often inspiring (I had "Sway" on repeat for nearly an hour: infectious beat, lovely basslines and tasty guitar licks; my only objection is the artist's decision to fade it out rather too abruptly as an ending). I especially noted the tribal SW American influences in both sampled chants on several tracks and rythmn/drumline choices. The striking (no pun intended) cover art correctly suggests that this album expresses among other things the artist's passion for municipal rail transportation, and invites the listener to travel along with the artist.
