About this album

  • Updated: 21/05/2008

band members are

Jennifer Greer: piano and vocals
Andy Dow: bass
Max Zemanovic: drums

all songs written and arranged by Jennifer Greer

Jennifer Greer is a self-taught, detail-obsessed singer/songwriter/pianist who has been singing since she was a little girl. Growing up in a suburb near New York City, poetry was her first love and artistic medium. At 25 she began to write music, being drawn to the piano like a magnet. She has since gone on to write about 5 albums worth of material, only 2 of which have been recorded. Jennifers distinctive voicewhich soars from earthy and sensual to sweetly lushis showcased in her last album the Apiary, which critics have called stunning. She is a Winner for Best Adult Alternative CD 2005 from the Muses Muse.

Jennifer's songs run from aggressive to impressionistic. She seeks to push the boundaries of Pop, by blending jazz, funk and classical "tone poem". These days her songs tend to be about outer rather than inner subjects, such as stories in the news, characters from books, as well as personal experience. Getting bored with herself easily, she pushes herself and band to be exciting and refreshing. As a performer, she exudes passion and joy that are tangible, shameless, and direct. She also co-runs a music series in Cambridge, MA where she lives, called the Indie Music Collective (IMC) at www.myspace.com/indiemusiccollectiveboston.

The technical aspect of the album is not perfect but the performance itself is really touching. Vitality, soul, and emotions of the singer allow you easily to ignore all the false notes of voice and piano. I myself never listen to music like this, but this artist got something that managed to capture me, so if you're into female songwriters stuff - this album is a must for you.

I love the blend voice-piano. Maybe indeed a little flavour Alanis, but in my opinion is Jennifer slighty sweeter at the taste. Well done! I really appreciated too the track Invited on Triplexity album. A pity we cannot know a little bit more about you...
