About this album

  • Updated: 03/06/2008

The album is a set of songs that the duo of Jim Guittard and Henry McGuinn (son of the Byrds founder Roger McGuinn) recorded during a six month period in 2000.  The time was very special.  All sorts of groups were turning on to the new sounds of the Neo-Psychedelic scene in Los Angeles, California, ie: The Tyde, the Quarter After, the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Beachwood Sparks, etc.

The tunes were recorded on Jim's 4-track recorder in Los Angeles, Dallas, and Austin, Texas  and some songs were performed live on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood.

Henry McGuinn plays Rickenbacker 325Byrd and 12-string Martin acoustic.  Jim Guittard plays 330 Rickenbacker and Epiphone Acoustic Guitar.  Henry sings lead vocal and Jim sings background vocal.www.myspace.com/theragas

diggin these groovy tunes, reminds me of some of the classic lo fi acid folk stuff (surprisingly i don't think this is anything like the beatles).... Mark Fry, Incredible String Band and Mayfly (one of my favourites). Loving the use of the 12 string guitar, gives it a real raga flavour. also the really fuzzy, sounds like you're recording in a bathroom, is really reminiscent of some classic music. Especially some of those live Love recordings that are out there, and those Bryan Maclean demos... pretty good stuff all round!
