About this album
This first track on this album "Roadway" was written back in late 2002, "Penguin" and "Oceans of Vega" didn't come about until 2003. In 2004 "Roadway" was published on music.download.com and in 2007 I published "Oceans of Vega" and republished "Roadway" on myspace, However, Jamendo is the only place where you can get all three songs and the story behind them :)
The songs are posted in the order they were written. I decided to name this album, "raw" because there is little to no effects on any of the songs. I think I put a blanket reverb over everything, just to keep it from sounding to sterile but knowing next to nothing about effects and how to use them, that's all I did. These songs were my very first attempt at making music with computers. I had played lead guitar and written lyrics for a few bands in the past, but making music on my computer, with a midi sound card and very little else (and without the use of a keyboard), was something different entirely.
All the music is written by me, there are no pre-made cut and paste loops in any of my songs."Roadway" was written almost completely on accident. I was just placing notes in on the screen with my mouse at random when I stumbledupon a tune I kind of liked, and eventually buildt an entire song around. The second song was inspired by a tiny toy penguin I owned and was goofing around playing with one day and the thought of, "what if penguins could fly?" I put the daydream to music and there you have it "Penguin" was born. "Oceans of Vega" was inspired by a picture I made in a fractal program that resembled (in my mind) the edge of an ocean, where the water meets a sandy beach, but with strange colors. I tried to imagine an ocean on some far away planet somewhere off in space, at night with no atmosphere so you could see the stars, and just a little rain and then put that image to music and that's where "Oceans of Vega" came from. It was the only song that was almost completely finished in my head before I ever wrote a note down.
Recently I been wanting to remix these songs, I have more to work with then I did before and I'm well aware that the mix down (among other things) "needs some work". Unfortunately for me, when my computer crashed last year I lost alot of data and may no longer have the midi for any of these songs. I was lucky enough to have backed up the wave files but I don't remember if I backed up the midi files (I know I will next time though) which basically tell me where all the notes go. Although I could rewrite these songs, I'm just not sure if I that interested in rewriting songs that are more then a few years old, when I could be writing new songs. If I get lucky enough to find some misplaced floppy disk with my missing .midi files on it them, then maybe, but until then I'll probably just be focusing on the new stuff. I'm well aware that this album is amature at best, but I had lots of fun making it and I hope you like it as well :)
Toodles!
