CIRCA VITAE is a diverse band that draws from many influences that include indie, experimental, and art rock. On the other hand, their songs are catchy enough to have pop qualities and edgy enough to hint at punk rock inspiration.
With the release of the self-titled EP in December of 2008, and the reputation of energetic live performances, CIRCA VITAE is generating a buzz in their hometown of Eugene and internationally.
With all five members hailing from different musical backgrounds, the collaboration of their efforts brings forth a plethora of human experience and emotion in the form of music. Britt Brady and Wesley Curtis, both on guitar, experiment with melodic noise washes and effects-driven riffs. The sound gains drive and energy with the dynamic rhythms of Thaddeus Moore on drums and prominent bass lines of Nate Beveridge. Ethereal vocal styling and multi-instrumental talent (violin, keys, and guitar) are served up by Anna Ponto, who joins Brady's wide vocal range and diverse style.
Circa Vitae uses music as a medium to transport listeners to common ground, a place where we all endure love, joy, alienation and suffering together. Awareness, humility and freedom of expression resonate through their music. The members of Circa Vitae create a soundscape laden with the full spectrum of human emotion, powered by internal fire.
CIRCA VITAE translates to “About Life”.

Effectivement cela aurait plus a voir avec Mars Volta qu'avec Radiohead, plus post rock que new prog finalement, mais ne boudons pas notre plaisir. Voici un très bon groupe et un très bon album qui voudrait jouer malignement la carte ultra-in de l'expérimentation avec l'ajout de quelques morceaux très court (bande son métaphysico-planante d'un paléolithique electrifié avec un zeste de Sigur Rós) qui laissent plutôt songeur. On retiendra les trois titres phares de l'album "Pterodactyl", "Stranger" et "The Tower" (je mets de coté "Shine", qui recycle la recette de "Pterodactyle" sans vraiment innover). Reste que ces trois là valent largement la note retenue, basse soutenue, rythmique puissante, nappes de guitares à l'amplitude séduisante (un gros son qui a déjà fait ses preuves ailleurs, voir Robin Foster). N'empêche que l'ajout de chœurs maniérés et un gout prononcé pour les dissonances à la Sonic Youth permettent à Circa Vitae de tirer son épingle du jeu.

A bit of radiohead, a bit of what I think is called college rock, now and then some noise.
You could risk a bit and use the noise stuff in the intro/outro of tracks, just like people do with classical music or electro.

The song Stranger had a lot going on in it, from pop, electronic, and rock sounding tones all intertwined in it with strained sounding vocals.
This record is not only impecable, but filled with talent and great musical skills. Circa Vitae has this twisted, interesting sound that will challenge your ears to the limit!
