I can see the deposition of one representative symbol for another, the rest is fairly well lost to me through the linguistic barrier. However, there are always two sides to every coin and the technological and industrial developments that such as the Capuchins preached finally aiding the machinations of the European Revolution, was simply one choice made because it seemed appropriate at the time according to a host of factors. Like why we live in a representative, capitalist democracy (well, I do apparently), it worked at one point and seemed the better of several possible evils regarding the control/satisfaction of the masses, of which the Church and its own machinations was a large part. So in the end, I kind of feel this little EP captures some of the essence of those momentous occasions very well. In fact, the more I listen to it the more convinced I am that it provides a fitting perspective on such events. Ex- is suitably solemn and has a sense of sudden finality. Pius VII, an inauguration by concordat, has a profound sense of ceremonialism to it. And, not just an external effect but also a sensibility of introspection to it. The resolve to make that choice is established. Pyhän kaupungin alla presents me with a shortness of understanding, I sense something ambiguous, if not plain paradoxical to what I can figure out of this track. There is a atmosphere of collectivity and moving through labyrinths of those vast cellars perhaps. Catacombs of resonation endear one to underworld activity as a realism, but only behind closed doors. Such an existence at the time would have equalled that of a modern day activist, working as a part of whatever passes as a regime. At that time they were literally playing it by ear, before the establishment of red tape and the boundaries of nations. I have to admit that the closest thing I can associate with the final track, Ristinsielu, is what was maybe going on in the bay then. That I don't know, but it is a really nice track, a curiously alluring finale to an interesting piece of work. Nice soundtrack to history, and quite vaguely specific, or is it specifically vague?
