This is an old irish, later american folksong.

There's a music video I made to this song on YouTube:

"The Streets of Laredo" is an acoustic ballad that, despite its Irish origin (according to Drexl) is basically listened as a nice, nostalgic country folksong performed with just voice and acoustic guitar. The youtube cartoon video definitely enhances the experience. Yet, what strikes me the most about this artist is that he is the same person that composed such different pieces like "Diving into the Cathedral"(ambient, experimental) and "Translucent Train Ride" (dub, drum'n'bass, from the "Sounds From the Year 2000" album). Very versatile. Somehwo reminds me of Woody Allen in his 1983 classic "Zelig".
