for a first EP on what sounds like low-grade equipment, this ain't bad, and Neural clearly knows his shit when it comes to using said equipment. this isn't classic ambient; it's got a much more cybernetic sound, and a high tempo despite its calm mood makes it a good mix-up for the middle of your chill tape. the relax factor's pretty high, on the same level as Zeropage's Ambient Pills album, so it's a pretty good stock EP for anyone who liked that.
i don't think there's enough in this genre. someone should make Neural an album cover; the Jamendo EPs and albums without them go unnoticed, and in this case, that's unjustified. there's a nice selection of tracks here, and they're not crap; for a taste, listen to Calculation.
its downside is that there *was* a bassline, obviously meant to be a good solid one, but it's been swallowed by the conversions the music's gone through. my advice? download, re-equalise, kick back and enjoy.

Good choices in Selection. Has all the elements required in the right amounts in the right places. As in, it (for my sensibilities) hits all the right buttons. I love the genre though and accept that it is not everyone's 'cup of tea', but that in some part makes it more attractive to me. Calculation adds up to a decent total of electronic sound arrangement. Some nice moves within. The following track, Discipline, strikes me as being profoundly resonant with some sphere in the universe. It has that air of musical authority.
Data Transmission interests me, not only as a track, but in a factual sense, academic, intellectual, etc. I work on the theory that data begets information begets knowledge begets wisdom. That of course presumes that the said flow gets so escalated. It might only need to go so far, like one part of a cell chemically conversing with another part. Is this the case here with this track? Is there a limit to the extent it travels along such a torrent of bits, and to what effect? Is that the 'wisdom', or do we stop at information. Either way, it is the basis of survival. If our cells don't talk to each other, we would fall apart. The wisdom is in subconsciously maintaining that to assist in the furtherance of the colony we call our selves. I love it, either way.
No Answers, when I think there is one. It just depends what the question is. Lovely sounds with plenty of room to digress on a debatable point. It is not my fault, those Greeks started it all, with their sophistry!-) To posit 'no answers', begets thinking about thinking. Just once is enough for most people. But then, Mass Production comes into play and proves that everyone wants a bite of the apple. Such industrialisation/commercialisation tends to cause a loss in overall, intrinsic value. Unless, you create pretend 'special' editions of products. Capitalism rules this particular roost. Digital bliss rules this particular track.
Finally, to round off a brilliant minimalist electronic array of digital creativity, we end with the epic Alienation. I am. We are. They will be. It seems to be part of the process of civilized evolution, devolution, revolution, etc. Such volition varies the votes in those hallowed upper echelons of power and control of the masses. We so easily seem to lose track of ourselves. However, it is tricky if the answer, and again it depends on the question, is about assimilation of socio-cultural elements, working bottom up. Triumph for the triumvirate. From England's point of view, alienation from Europe was as a result of the outcomes of the Reformation and resulting schisms. Maybe the horse has not only bolted, but is not even coming back. Maybe it will. It will all come out in the wash and time will reveal all, even if only posthumously.
Overall, a very nice album. Just what I need to give me the scope to exercise my grey matter in grey areas. All corners need dusting periodically and sometimes music inadvertently, or even deliberately excites the neurons and nodes of brain activity. This is where I wonder about the transmission of what seems to be mere 'data', when it all adds up semantically, there becomes a valid point to be made. Though, to some extent the door has to be left ajar to some extent to allow for subjectivity. Don't worry though, the ontologists might think they have won, but it is delusional psychosis. Great sounds, thanks for listening!-)
