Niesamowite, że na Jamendo trafiają takie zespoły. Topology to dojrzali artyści, którzy już są znani i uznani, więc rozgłos w takim miejscu nie jest im chyba potrzebny. To co grają to wprawdzie nie jest muzyczny mainstream, ale z pewnością i nie nisza. Nyman i Glass to tylko najbardziej znani kompozytorzy, których utwory zagrali na tym albumie. Mnie jednak najbardziej spodobała się dwuczęściowa kompozycja basisty grupy, Roberta Davidsona pt. "McLibel". Tekst stanowią wybrane kwestie z głośnej sprawy sądowej, w której McDonald's pozwał organizatorów protestów za rozdawanie ulotek z krytyką firmy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mclibel). Ale to tylko pretekst do muzyki, jak u naszej rodzimej "Piwnicy pod Baranami". Davidson poszedł jeszcze dalej i wydobył z mowy nie tyle treść, co przede wszystkim melodię. Grające w unisono z głosem smyczki tworzą niesamowitą atmosferę. Wydawało mi się to bardzo znajome, jednak dopiero końcówka "McLibel 1" całkiem zdradziła muzyczny żart Davidsona: to niemal dosłowne nawiązanie do twórczości minimalisty Steve'a Reicha (http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Reich), którego niedawno poznałem - połączenie "Different Trains" z "Come Out"! Żart o tyle smakowity, że z nim podobno także współpracowali. Podobało mi się, że tu materiałem były całe zdania, a nie urywki czy wręcz daty jak u Reicha. Nie rozumiem tylko dlaczego album nie jest oryginalny, tzn. został zmodyfikowany w stosunku do wersji z 2003 (http://www.topologymusic.com/cds.htm). Musiałem odjąć mu pół gwiazdki, bo wolałbym kompozycje w duchu "McLibel" (czyli pewnie ich album "Airwaves" - muzycznie opracowane słynne nagrania z historii radia!), ale poziom Topology jest świetny, bez dwóch zdań. P.S.: żart może być nawet jeszcze bardziej rozbudowany, bo dosłuchałem się w McLibel także nutek nymanowskich.

I do love minimalism music, and I think the playing is good and they are all very talented musicians, but I doubt whether this is the right place to put such an album. I think Jamendo and creative commons is about creating original music and sharing it with the world. Also, please note that you can face some law issues and demands for putting copyrighted music under a different license and distributing it. All that said. I have enjoyed the versions, specially the Knee Play from Einstein on the Beach. Best.

For me this is out of law. In case it is not may anyone explain me why? The music is quite good but does those authors are still alive? Bah.....

Je découvre cette musique comtemporaine dont on comprend et apprécie le langage. Ah, ça fait du bien. C'est vraiment très varié et très bien fait. Les compositeurs maitrisent parfaitement leur sujet. Bravo à eux avec un plus pour M. Nyman et J. Babbage, à mon goût.

dès la première écoute, on adore ! on adore si on aime Nyman, Glass et compagnie bien sûr... piste 7 et 8 : connaissez-vous, et là je m'adresse aussi à Topology, un compositeur appelé René Lussier ? je vous conseille d'écouter l'album "Le trésor de la langue" (1989). je pense que vous apprécierez son travail. encore bravo, je vais de ce pas sur votre site !

I've greatly enjoyed this album since buying it after seeing Topology on tour, right after it was released. From the creative use of the samples from the McLibel documentary (a technique forming the basis of their 2006 album Airwaves), to the humour of Mere MaLady (track 12 on the original disc, unfortunately not available here, presumably for legal reasons), I've returned to this album many times over the years. In fact, when I finally saw the McLibel documentary some time later, I couldn't get the melodies from this disc out of my head!
