Reviews for "She's Buried Deep"

Track one, piano, drums, noise and crazy shit happening all at ones, sometimes. And someone singing, in a strange way, it was chaotic, hypnotic, strange and mad, and like seeing someone's nightmare. But mad, thinking about it, after a few listens, I liked it! yupe that's true..
Track two- same as first track,so used to the music style by now..
Track three - Strings, hiphop, nice rhythmical solid bass line, nice vocals, relaxing, and calm.
Nice smooth flow and feel to track.
Track four - piano, darker, atmospheric, nice bass line, distorted vocals, interesting, hypnotic, dramatic.
Track five - I love the dark and atmospheric, feel and flow to this track, vocals are interesting, and suitable for this track. I kinda think this one is my favourite of all the tracks so far. Just feels right some how!
Track six - strange noises, hypnotic start, turning into musical ambient sounds... building up more and more.. between mixture of noise and ambient music. vocals. interesting, strange, wonderment on this track with noise.
Track seven - I like the build up of piano and music on this track with the vocals. atmospheric, gentle and calming in away. Love the bassline, giving it more edge along the way of this track. I like this one also.
Track eight - Hiphop and piano, hypnotic, trance like state, nice vocals on this track.Great build up on ending to this track, love it. Deep bassline kicking ass.
To be honest, I was not sure what to make of this album, when I first started to listen, but I guess after a few listens, I actually quite enjoyed it, even thou, not really, my sort of music in away. But the interpretation of music style in this album was interesting, diverse and had something about it, that made me want to check it out more and more. As musical styles are not always straight up, and easy to listen to or interpretate as well, you either love it or not. and in my case I enjoyed this, strange, mad at times, hypnotic, trance like, instrumental, piano, hiphop, progressive, noise album.
"The Effects Of Waiting". I'm not sure what the point of this was or what it was trying to say. I listened to it 3 times and each time I found it more irritating.
"Dry the throat". Sorry, but I think this sounded horrid and I could only listen to it twice. The piano was tuneless or off key. Percussion was ok as was the vocals, but I don't think they rescued this track.
"Poem" Quite a good track, but seems out of place on this album. The background voices sounded quite disturbing, but I guess this was what the artist was going for.
"Can You See", Good percussions, very minimal. I liked the strained singing and thought it sounded much better than the disturbed voice in this piece.
The latter part of the track sounded like a drum frenzy with a timid piano trying to make itself heard.
"It's Freezing". This was weird but I found it listenable. The percussions could have taken more of a backseat, but I liked this track and could imaging been wrapped up against the winter chill and listening to this track.
"Sleep T-Rex". I tried to get into this as I thought it sounded promising in parts, but I just kept been disappointed.
"Poem". The return of this music was most welcome and uplifting.
"Tree dead Moods" Starts with a dark almost sinister tone and throughout the piece goes through many mood changes and tempo. This track seemed to be the most thought out on the album. The 12 minutes was need to take on all the changes. This was a very well produced piece of music.
A courageous attempt at something new, but I just didn't get it. Some of this music would have been great as various media soundtracks, but an album would drive me crazy.
The tracks "Poem"(both of them) and "It's Freezing" made the album tolerable and I feel "Tree Dead Moods" turned it into a very interesting and listenable album. An album with only those four tracks would then be fantastic.
Sorry, I really tried to get my head around this but many of these track did little for me musically. The one's that did, though, were very good pieces of music. I don't think there will be much middle ground with this. Some of these track will either be loved or hated.
Interseting sounds, reminded me of Portishead/ Placebo earlier work maybe a little like NIN also. All 3 of those groups are my heros so.....
Enjoy listening to this :)
A Very nice noise,"three dead moods" especialy!
Open and Brave, like its should be(Like someone sad:Music is not a whisper it is a thunder out from a blue sky)
A chaotic start with The Effects of Waiting, and the artist has been waiting long enough, it is kind of like a song about making a song and the congealing of it in the brain as it takes forms and begins to be structured. Dry the Throat is quite abstract, but takes a loose structure and applies it, the concept is being formulated. Reminds me of old band practice sessions. I like the piano at the end. Poem is quite reasonable, I think there wasn't any real need for the percussive layer, it was working quite well as a piece of neo-classicism with poesie. But then when the tired hip-hop beat changes it fits better and sounds nicer. So, I preferred the latter half overall.
Can You See? See what? What's hidden in this track? What's hidden inside? Quite a nice track, almost minimalist in structure with a rough edge of working hard to be something eclectic and bordering on just getting messy in places, which is fine because it works well with the other parts that aren't. Quite a nice construction. I can see why it might be perceived as being dark, whereas I think it just obfuscates what it wants to come clean about. But then, the dark is unknown, and vice versa. The answer is in there somewhere.
It's Freezing makes a valiant attempt at creating a soundscape, in the form of an interlude with vocals that are simple and explain the nature of the music, so what is there to say, but get out of the fridge. Sleep T-Rex! is just unjustifiably manic, with a background track that sounds like it could be pretty good, the layer at the forefront destroys and undermines the structure. Where the hell did that voice sample come from? And they were such a good band, I cried when he died. The ending was quite nice. Poem (the second) seems to be part of a dyptych, and works pretty well. Nicely balanced and good progression.
Three Dead Moods appears to have good potential, and I've got an eye on the other reviews. There seems to be a hefty amount of passion in this, I like it so far but I'm only three minutes in, so it may be too early to tell. The drum beat works quite well and blends in well with the instrumentation. The vocals are quite harsh, but it's saving grace is the tempo and spirit in which it was developed. Nice variation within, but then there is plenty of room, and despite there being so much space where it could go wrong, I will stick my neck out and say this is outstanding work. It actually is three movements that slip by the net of distinction quite deftly. 6 mins or so in and we are in a completely different atmosphere, and a very nice one at that. Nice soundscaping. Three minutes later and the progression is accumulating, with a mix of noise that was apparently well thought out. A brave new piece, I could do with a whole album of this style and attitude towards creative expression.
To be honest, the first time I listened I wasn't very impressed. Not my type of music, and just kind of creepy. However, the second, third, and fourth time listening, it kept sounding better. I think it's good background music for reading serious stuff, or if you're high and doing something else too. It has a lot of quick tempo shifts and vocals going from moaning to singing to yelling. Here's what I think about each track:
The Effects of Waiting- 9/10 - I really like the drums in the background, and the piano pretty good. It's really ambient and just sort of noise, which isn't a bad thing.
Dry the Throat- 9/10 – Again, I like the drums. The vocals are better than the last track, I think. They're about as melodic as he gets, and more emotional.
Poem 1- 4/10 – This song just isn't for me. I'm sure plenty of other people would like it more, as it's less dark than most of the rest of the album. It's pretty sad, like a Mono song. If it was longer, it'd probably be better.
Can You See?- 9/10 – The beginning sounds, for lack of a better word, thick, like someone's drowning. Something about it reminds me of Menomena!'s “Strongest Man In The World” most, along with the whole “I Am The Fun Blame Monster!” CD, although it's really different. Probably the beats for the first and last two minutes. When he starts yelling “can you see?” and after that is probably my favorite part of the album.
It's Freezing– 8/10 – at first this song just gave me a headache. The next time I listened to it I fell asleep. But the next few times I started to really enjoy the subtle rhythms and repetitiveness. It slowly builds up, calms down again, and then the ambiance comes back in. It's beautiful, in a sorrowful way.
Sleep T-Rex!- 6/10 – Reminds me of 65daysofstatic's “Fall of Math”. The talking is kind of annoying, but to me sounds like the narrator in Fight Club, so it's all good. Even though I love both of those, it just doesn't work for me. Could be the static noises. Decent song though.
Poem 2- 10/10 – This is a really relaxing song. Kind of like “It's Freezing”, but not as repetitive. Again, it's so sad I can't help but love it. Definitely deserves the 10/10. I wish it went on for another 10 minutes, but oh well.
Three Dead Moods- 9/10 – I have an inclination to like songs over 8 minutes for some reason. It starts out kind of like “Dry the Throat.” It continues with this kind of haunted sound until about 3 minutes in. Then another electric-sounding keyboard plays over the piano. After a minute of that, beats and yelling start again similar to “Can You See?” Good stuff. At 5:15 it slows down again to the ambient noise. It kind of sounds like music that cartoons used to play when someone got hit on the head and started dreaming/tripping, haha. At about nine minutes in, some organ or something notes start playing. Someone's talking, and then suddenly all the noise turns into the guy moaning/singing again. It sounds pretty good, and the music keeps going until the end of the song a minute later. I think the end is pretty epic. The sound just kind of dies. This song is pretty appropriately named, although maybe more like Five Dead Moods or something, haha.
Anyway, if you have patience and any appreciation for underground music, after a few listens this album starts to sound pretty good. It's getting harder to find new calm, sad music... so thank you Old & Gray.
