About this album

  • Updated: 26/03/2009

Broken Eyes is the second installment from a sound travesty.  I recorded over 40 original songs in my very humble recording studio, which is now named "Bad Idea Records."  The first 15 songs that I recorded were put on my debut album, Number Zero.  The second set of 15 songs were put on this album, Broken Eyes.  What happened to the other 10-15 songs you ask?  Some were good songs but suffered from poor recording quality and will be re-recorded and put on the next album. others will be banished to the depths of hell, never to be heard again.  As an artist, you don't always produce what you inivisioned and unfortnuately you have to scrap.

The name Broken Eyes has an origin, if you are interested.  A buddy of mine asked me to write and record some original music for a short film he was doing.  After explaining the plot and his vision for his film, I immediately became inspired and wrote "Kaleidoscope."  Sadly, he did not wind up using it, but rather some songs from Number Zero instead.  During the recording of Kaleidoscope I was using different effects on the beat and produced a very unique sounding one accidentally.  It wasn't what I was going for in Kaleidoscope but it inspired me to write a completely different song and #15-"Broken Eyes" was born.  Since the beat was essentially the same but with an effect, I decided that it would be a partner to Kaleidoscope and I used the same xylophone sounding instrument in it as well.  The name for the last track on the album came from lyrics in Kaleidoscope-"I see the whole world turning, Kaleidoscope through broken eyes."  I am very proud of the song Broken Eyes, it was the fastest and easiest song to write and record and I like it so much I decided to name the album after it.

Once again, I am truly honored to be able to share my creation with you all.  Thanks for the listen, I really appreciate it.

A 3rd album due out in the future, see you soon...........................

Distortion in the sound, sort of mellow vocals.

The sound of this album is rough (not in the bad way, I mean with lots of distortion, sound FX, and all those things) in many songs, but the flow of the music is enjoyable. In a way it is the sort of music that blends in the background of what you are doing, you are listening to it, but not really aware of all of the things happening. Sort of the record I will have in a road trip with no direction, just driving on a lazy day. Overall rating: Good.

I really liked this album. Although it was a solo project I think it came out real well! It helps that I like this type of music in the first place. Great job James! You have alot of talent! I look forward to hearing more like this! All in all, a great start for an up and coming artist!!!

A good album, like the first, even if I prefer the first. I think this album is a little harder (distortion), more intended. Some more melody misses, in my opinion. Yeah, an alternative album, some rock and some hard rock, distortion and sometime repetitive, but good anyway.

Ok, like the artists says, they've done better on the technical points of recording. Could have been maybe a better mix or a little crisper in some spots. But still, the songs and the ideas and the playing are great. A lot of depth and creativity. And you know, even with the recording quality being not quite as perfect as the artist would have liked, the songs still work. I particularly like "Sail Away" and "You'd better run". I'm giving it a 9. I feel it earns at *least* that. P.S.- The worth of music can't be measured by the lack (or presence) of technical flaws. It's the idea, the feel, and what it *is* that matter more.
