About this album

  • Updated: 29/04/2009

"DAHAB" is an acoustic trio that was created by Sharif Maghraby (composition, lead and rhythm guitars, vocals) , Majed Fassi (composition, lead and rhythm guitars, vocals) and Adham Sharkawy (percussion) in 2004. Our music can be defined as ‘acoustic ethnic rock with a 70’s influence.” We are inspired by Sinai – a magical and sacred land. We have all spent considerable time there and a lot of our songs were written there whilst meditating on the beach or deep in the desert. It is truly a beautiful place that helps one regain balance in their soul.
‘DAHAB’ is actually a small Bedouin village in Sinai about 100km north of Sharm El Sheikh and it is renowned as a place where musicians and artists go to create and improvise. It is a place which we all agree has given us great times, great friends, great passion, great music and of course a feeling of harmony, peace and being one with nature. This is the essence of our band and most of our music has been composed in Sinai.
Our first public performance was in the Dubai International Jazz Festival in the Buzz Art Tent. From then on, we played two seasons at the Peanut Butter and have also been regulars on the Dubai Lime open mic scene. We have supported the Wailers in Bahrain, are part of the Souk Al Bastakiya artist, JUMPFEST, SLOBFEST and the Dubai Festival City gigs. Our music is a fusion of rock, folk, oriental and blues and poetry.
We are influenced by many greats Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Bob Marley, Lenny Kravitz, Santana, Tracy Chapman and many others.
We started out playing cover songs for many of the above mentioned artists which we had interpreted to fit into our unique sound. We then decided to move away from that direction and began incorporating our own compositions into our sets which were always very well received by audiences..
We have just finished recording our first album called “Spirit of Sinai” which was recorded, mixed and mastered at SoundDesign Studios In Cairo. It is an acoustic album with a very mellow unplugged sound and includes a full band that we brought in for the recording.
The album was completed on Jan 5th, 2009 and the track list is as follows : I Remember When, No Love Dies, Brother, I Am Gold, Time, OverDrive, Yours To Make and Dahab.
Lately, we have joined by Ammar Dajani on Bass and Ashraf Helimi on drums and we are now performing as a 5 piece band in Dubai.
We are currently in talks with VIRGIN MUSIC STORES to get a distribution deal for our album in their retail outlets.
It's all good....

"MOTHER, WHY ARE THESE MEN CARRYING GUNS WALKING, SHOOTING AT EVERYONE IS IT, POWER THEY WANT OR IS IT PLEASURE AND PAIN YOUR ARMS, WON’T KEEP ME SAFE FROM THE BOMBS FALLING DOWN FROM EVERYPLACE" == Lyrics from: "Brother" one of my favorites . . . The acoustic guitars and the vocals are so smooth, like warm honey on a tired soul. The music resonates with my heart and the harmonies are angelic. The lyrics told of longings of old for peace and love .. .. .. the meaning of life . . . these songs remind me of the folk/pop/rock songs from the seventies. The lyrics are sheer poetry and meaningful, stories well told through the music. This album is a stunning production, well played with talented and thoughtful musicians in total charge of moving the emotions and thoughts of the listeners. I liked "Overdrive"s jazzy moments which perked up the mood of the album, nicely done. "Yours to Make" had such a haunting melody with harmonious vocals and lyrics which were just stunning and quite moving. "Dahab"'s beautiful Eastern Influenced flute and guitars sang to me from a dream state of magic and peace and hope. "JUST LET GO OF HATE FEEL THE LOVE - CREATE BEFORE IT’S ALL TOO LATE" ===Lyrics from "Yours to Make" M^^W PEACE

This album is an amazing work of art, a wonderful blend of Middle eastern influences, jazz, blues. Unique in their style, focussed on expression and delivering amazing performances. The smooth sound, yet wonderfully detailed layering adds for repetitive listens and thorough enjoyment. Definitely mature works. Vocals are expressive and unique. And 'wow' to the beautiful playing and tone on the guitars. Bass playing is technical and rendered superb. It shines out in 'time' along with the guitars and 'i am gold'. Drums and percussion are simply perfect. Dahab is a fine example of a band that listens and plays as a unit. The sound mix is technically, excellent and sounds great on most systems. The great musical arrangement and performance only adds more to the beautiful blend. The musicians know their sound and music. Thank you for the wonderful music - Dahab. Synonymous with the arabic word 'dhahab', meaning Gold. A Golden album, indeed.

Suenaa a cabaret exótico. Está muy bien suena distinto y por eso apetece escucharlo entero y dejarte sorprender. Aunque para sorpresa encontrarse con ROCK en INGLÉS en los Emiratos Árabes.
