MAXIMUM ROCK & ROLL - DECEMBER 2006
by Andy Darling
CANDY— "EP' CD
These, guys barely look 21 years old and yet all the songs seem to be about drinking... Could be my home town, but it's Inglewood, CA. They actually remind me of the first Lookout Records bands like OPERATION ivy, ISOCRACY, etc. Real DIY charm and some nice tunes make this a good one, although the songs are all hella long.(AD)

Razorcake Review

CANDY:
Self-titled: CDEP
Candy hails from Southern California and sure sounds like it. These five songs are chock full of Epitaph Records style riffing and that trademark style of harmonizing that all those bands on that label employ. Every song on this EP cannot be remembered distinctly. I can only recall the collective sound of the band. This is a somewhat negative characteristic for a band that is maneuvering into the treacherous territory of Southern Californian chain wallet skate punk. I feel that this style of punk rock is increasingly generic and follows a rigid and hollow template. I am surprised that the institution of "mall punk" is not already played in airports by now. I had to go back and listen to this again so I could compose this review. This would have served better as a demo so that the band could take more time to craft their own sound. Better luck next time, gents! –Guest Contributor (Vending Machine)

Razorcake Review 2

CANDY:
Self-Titled: CDEP
There was something missing here. This is one of those strange moments when a band has everything in place, and all of the appropriate elements are there, and sounds like nothing more than that. The best records are those in which five plus five adds up to twenty, the sum turning out much larger than what the various parts should add up to. On this record, five plus five equals ten. Reminds me of Anti-Flag, but not as good. –The Lord Kveldulfr (Vending Machine)

krach .. so muss das sein. da sind noch schwächen im sound und in der tightness, aber vielleicht macht das ja gerade den charme von punk aus. ich höre mir das jedenfalls gerne an.
