About this album

  • Updated: 24/06/2009

Origin of the album

This album was originally sent as a musical new years card for 2004. It was a first compilation of material I had entirely arranged the way I wanted it to be. The songs were all composed using Guitar Pro (which I happen to use since version 2.16 and still do). This was the first serious recording I made.

Recording process

All tracks were records on my analog 4-track Tascam Portastudio 424 MkII, with - depending on the song - 1 or 2 tracks for the accompanying "instruments" and the remaining tracks for the guitar arrangements. The backing track was generated MIDI from Guitar Pro, with a simple software MIDI wavetable driver (average quality sounds). There were no effects used during the recording and since I was recording on an analog device, I could not rely on fancy copy/paste techniques of todays studio software. After all the tracks were recorded, I played back the 4 tracks and recorded them in stereo on my PC (how simple can it be).

Instruments

I used 2 guitars for the recording:

  • my Seagull S6 mahogany - folk guitar
  • my Gibson CE (Chet Atkins) - classical guitar

Both guitars have a built in piezzo microphone so I didn't have to mess around with microphones and worry about surrounding noises.

Like it?

I hope you like this kind of music. This is an older recording. Don't worry about the sound quality or the little flaws and mistakes. If you like this kind of music, this is an encouragement for me to record and publish more of the same kind of music (I have some tracks of the musical new years card of 2006 available as well :-) ).

The tracks of this album are published under a Creative Commons licence, check the licence associated to each track.
