About this album

  • Updated: 26/06/2009

The first Shufflebrain venture is a fusion of noise and ambient. Tortured vocals, heavily processed guitar, and chaotic synthesizers were utilized in these first five experiments. There was a disc crash during the recording of Experiment 4, and the three remixes are alternate reconstructions given the remaining files.

As a theory, as opposed to a hypothesis, the listener is taken straight into a confident experimentation. At times it has a profound effect. A Hologramic Theory is sound manhandled to good effect. Nice track. Experiment 2 seems to take in more of the flora and fauna, and has a strange historical feel to it. Like Humboldt's universal survey. Either way it seems to tap into a primevalism of existence. From the start, Sense Intensification, makes a pitch that hits the cerebral cortex dead on. Then, it turns milder than I expected and slowly builds, introducing new variables into the equation of explication. Which is quite subtle by comparison thus far, though it has an exquisite detail and summary of results. Memory Overflow, Experiment 4, takes the lead in what appears to be a series of empirical activity. Like mine, it ebbs and flows. Maybe something like senile dementia is a valve to avoid such a dilemma, i.e. the older you get the more you have to deal with internally and for some that's too much. Are our memories to become part of the greater collective unconscious? Is that what happens to the overflow, or the accountability of the souls journey from the body? Assimilation. Is there a limit to what the aether can hold? The aura of the planet has the universe to expand into as it itself expands. Could that be a spiritual explanation of an empiric wonder? However well that stands, this track is replete with a variation of variables, which is fitting to the entitlement it gains from the names. The gush of mental effluvia, sometimes quiet, sometimes intense, seems to reflect the efficacy of such a release valve. Ending with some beautiful reverberations to add to the profundity. Experiment 4.1 reminds me of something. It slips by my recollection quite elegantly (despite the crash) and conjures up an amiable ambience. It makes me realise that I might not have the time for such thing as recall. Only creaking gates have the memories of the movements of their hinges and passers by. Experiment 4.2 brings it all back, and the mental meanderings are put aside for something more structured and purposive. The cerebral machinations come into play and the track is retained, after walking through the gate, that creaked your name and soaked up some of your intention in transgression. CRC Error (Experiment 4.3) has a very appealing ring to it and carries itself well considering the circumstances. Finally, Experiment 5, refers us back to the seat of all memorabilia, however mixed. A fine conglomeration of noise and movement, mind you it is disturbing to hear the inside outside and be given time enough to reflect on it. One to remember.
