Tony Cankles' Pull It Motel is a surprisingly good hip-hop record that explores a pantheon of genres and styles, but somehow always remains true to its character. The flow is superb, as one track always sets up the next, and not a single verse on this disc is wasted. Of particular note is Cankles' skillful wordplay, perhaps his strongest attribute. You can choose any random point on this record to play, and you can be sure to hear something clever, often clever enough to instill laughter (or at least brand you with a big dumb grin for its entirety). You might be able to tell from afar that Tony Cankles probably keeps a copy of Paul's Boutique in his CD player, but when examined in-depth, there really isn't anything else like this out there. Bravo, Tony Cankles, you've made a banger.
Been following Tony Cankles for years and he brings it each time , "Pull It Motel" is no different. If this album doesn't sound like something you've heard before… it's because it's not and that's the point. Cankles has consistently proved the critics wrong and this being his 5th full length album has shown that he’s got staying power. With the addition of Dizzy T and Nino The God on tracks like “Backstage Bettys” and “Chewy Runts” you can tell these guys are no amateurs. You can catch all of them combining forces in group called “They Walk on Water” in which Cankles tours with as well as his solo acts. Cankel’s live act has all the intensity of a rock show combined with the flow and character of hip hop and straight up rap, which is exactly what you’ll get on this album. “Pull It Motel” will have you rollin through each track like Cankles joints on the “Nesta Track”. It’s an album you can put on and leave on, if anything, to hear what comes out of his mouth next. “Pull It Motel” is destined to be a classic. Don’t be the only one that hasn’t heard it.
Can't wait for the next CD!
