About this album

  • Updated: 05/10/2009

2004: It was a great summer for Love in the world of Nature!

From the mating frenzy of the 17 year cicadas, to the delicate flutter of katydids, to the full-throated cricket choirs in every vacant field: all summer long the air was filled with seductive insect love calls. For us humans, the sounds were restful, meditative, hypnotic, magical. This CD contains no human instrumentation--just the sounds of summer days and nights in weed fields, parks, woods and riversides. Except for Track 1, they were recorded around Valley Forge PA from August through October 2004.

Credit for the cover art goes to Ed Stark ("Cicada X").

This album does have a message: "put away the lawn chemicals, leave some high grass, and spare the singing insects!"

I felt, I had died and gone to natures heaven, checking out this very heavenly, divine experience of a sound-scape of natures delights. I had travel to some remote part of a Brazilian,or Amazonian, rain forest and was sitting under a hundred year old tree and beyond,my spot it was filled with beauty all round me, and was sitting, listening to the choir of naturals wild life around me echo in my ears..from the tiniest of creatures you can barely see with your naked eyes..And feeling the dry hot humid heat on my brow and my body perspiring in that climate...the sun casting a shadow between the tops of the trees above me. and the greenest of green of the forests carpet of ferns, roots etc around me at my feet, I see snakes in the trees, hear the noise of insects, ants, and so on in my ears. Depending on the track I'm checking out. As other times, I sit in an English countryside, near a still lake and hearing the frogs croak, and crickets, birds, insects scurry around me, doing their daily life routines..The kaleidoscopic, surround sound of gods natural world around us.. Is so calming, graceful, elegantly expressed in this brilliant, album.

Well, I'm not rating Laura as a musician, but the insects did a MARVELLOUS job, as did the bird section. Great idea Laura, and thanks for putting it up on jamendo. I love it as a counterpoint to working in the office - gives me the calming sense of being outside, while not distracting me from the task at hand.
