Meet Colin Newcomer and Christopher Rupe. Also known as Nyloc Rex and Dr. Knox. Two brothers classically trained in composition, piano and guitar who have used their traditional knowledge to study, perform and write within the endless variety of popular song. An English major from The University of Colorado at Boulder (Colin) and a film scoring major from Berklee College of Music in Boston (Christopher) decided to put their education and talents together to take another journey into the fine art of songwriting.
Growing up in the 80's and 90's, the brothers Scrimshaw noticed the slow and painful decline of the effort and quality of popular music. By the end of the first decade of the 21st century, it seems there is hardly any effort given towards achieving the quality of classic rock songwriting which was so evident in decades past and made the songs of that era so timeless. Songs that paint a picture. Songs that tell a story. Songs that everyone knows. Songs that you sing along to. Songs that make you want to pick up an instrument and learn. Songs that make you want to start a rock band. Songs that are catchy and stick in your ear. Songs with meaning. Songs with feeling. Songs for living.
Good songwriting is able to cross all boundaries of age, generation and genre. Take a nicely written hip-hop song, break down the chords to an acoustic guitar, sing a nice melodic version of it to some folk artists and I'm convinced they will be impressed. A good song is a good song. It is the endeavor of the brothers Scrimshaw to implore their fellow writers, musicians, comedians, scholars, and anyone else who has ever listened to a rock album to go ahead and write some songs. You may be pleased. Put them out there for all to hear and help fill this void which was once a paramount aspect of our great international culture.
If we have seen anything it is because we have stood on the shoulders of giants.

Please stay courteous and be sincere (for good and bad!). It can be an interesting read for others, but only if it is constructive and doesn't disparage the artist.
Please write about the music itself and don't be too hard on the sound quality of some demos.
