This album is slightly different than other SaReGaMa's works - that's for sure. But, firstly, different doesn't mean worse. This recording is of equal very high quality. And secondly, this difference is not so big. Therefore, in my opinion, there is nothing to justify the harsh and dissapointed review of KraftiM and people who agreed to his review. KraftiM's arguments are absurd when one takes into consideration that he likes other works of SaReGaMa. He was nearly put asleep? This album is far more varied and dynamic than e.g "Bodhi Tree". It's " darkish experimental"? What a crime! Is it bad to experiment? Should all SaReGaMa's albums be identical? Is all dark music bad, simply because it is dark? Should all tunes in the world be full of pink fluffy bunnies and shiny happy faces? THIS would surely put ME asleep. KraftiM complaints about "annoying crickets"... Hello, anybody home? Aren't sounds of nature one of the most common and widely used features of ambient music? The tuba-like flute fits the other elements perfectly. And so on... So, to sum up, this is a very successful attempt at creating slightly more dark music, in accordance with the title. When you close your eyes you can almost feel those spirits gathering around you, which is a clearest evidence that SaReGaMa succeeded in what he had planned. Thank you for sharing your beautiful music. One thing I don't like is the fourth track, but the reason is it's too short, so the tune doesn't last long enough to develop properly and listeners don't have enough time to feel the mood. The album could end after the third track.

Questa recensione è anche qui: http://suonolibero.wordpress.com/2008/02/24/saregama-spirits-of-ancestors-ep-darkness-fire-and-spirits/ An album that is a way of communicating with the humanity's past. The spirits of ancestors are always us ... everything is written in our body. As the cover suggests the darkness and fire are elements beloved for this trip. In the first two songs you are transported in the collective past of the human race. They are well made. In the third song "Peyote" the journey has personal connotations and you can feel the expansion of space and time. Here you see your past lives. In the fourth track there is hallucination, perhaps the temptation to identify with the power, but the presence of water gives you purification.

I don't understand this, SaRe normally is a superb instrumentalist with a great feel of layering and composing. But here track 1 starts rather darkish experimental but gets soon disturbed by a misfitting would-be-jazzy tuba-sound, originated by mad grandgrandfathers surrounded by annoying crickets.I don't understand the mix. Then of course the indians march in. Track 2 is really new age, and nearly put me asleep, which ain't meant negative, but still i miss here emotion and development. Also in track 3 really nothing happens, the machine runs on automatic, and at the end from nowhere an atonal false playing flute/organ comes trying to get som melody here. Whole sound is very darkish, somber and negative. Track 4 is experimenting around with reversing, reverbing, artificial rainmaking and annoying voices. What kind of evil is there bubbling?? I'm afraid those ancestors have not a so nice story to tell... No stars given, don't wanna spoil yer average rating, I know you can do much better.

This is one of the best, if not the best ambient album I've heard on Jamendo. This was inspired and the end result is truly breathtaking. Last year I read the book, "The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge", by Carlos Castaneda, and I only wish I would've had this to play in the background while I read that book. This album is highly recommended.

Environment is rather dark but very fascinating. The voice, in bottom, reinforces this impression. It reigns a strange atmosphere which entirely wraps you. Spirits of Ancestors Part1 is a pure wonder which made me thought of a ritual dance Indienne. It is an album soft and mysterious at the same time, worrying even per moment but always in charge of emotions. Melodies which plunge you in a long meditation, which leaves you dreamer a long time after the last note flew away. A splendid album, to listen with attention and respect.
