About this album

  • Updated: 16/07/2007

Insomniance was assembled in about two weeks, and it likely sounds so ;)

The theme very loosely regarded metaphysical travel; rising and falling in love; other tides, such as consciousness; a journey through a sleepy, but sleepless night; a sojourn in sorrow; and concluded with a tranquil morning sunrise; a bleary-eyed recognition of time after making it through to the often distant shore of the night--dawn.

All tracks were first and only takes, and then tinkered with what software I had at the time.

The album consisted of:

  • a cedar-top Seagull 12-string acoustic guitar (half-strung)
  • a Gibson Les Paul Studio electric guitar
  • a rather generic keyboard of some sort I had borrowed for a couple nights
  • some Indian bells/chimes

And portions of some wonderful samples from Freesound, including some of the following:

Thank you for listening. I've found some of these pieces to be quite soporific. Perhaps they may help others who attempt to set sail in the silent stillness of insomnia. Or maybe they could offer some solace for those who make it through the lonely night, and are the first to arrive at tomorrow's shore.

Your music is truly beautiful. Peaceful, calmful and expressive, it takes its time to grow on you. Set Sail for the Sleepy Sea/The Ancient Rhyme of the Future Mariner are specially beautiful and mind-blowing for me, but all compositions are thoughtful and executed with spirit. Just beautiful...

Wonderful album, brought me back to the days when English bands like Felt and to a lesser extent Cocteau Twins and Spacemen Three were the rage. I thought I had grown old, but this album helped me get in touch with what has ultimately never left me.

I hardly believe an instrumental album mainly composed with an electric guitar could be inspired and passionating... but this is really the case ! Félicitations et très bonne continuation

A good album Un bon album ambient;la construction aurait meritée des plages plus longues pour eviter une disparité,peut être excessive.Mais cela ne nuit pas à la qualité du travail. Mon morceau préféré reste le plus long:just still born Que du plaisir Thanks Jeff for your musical serenity
