Here it is at last -- for months, my seventh Jamendo album was simply known as 'VII'.  Then came FAWM (February Album Writing Month), and a blizzard that trapped me in the house.

Out of this came one of my best (and certainly biggest) albums: The Next Age of Adventure.

A grand total of 18 songs -- more than 73 minutes of audio.  An album so big, that I separated it into two parts for my Jamendo release!

This is Part 1.  If you like it, be sure to check out Part 2.

For further information, you can find out more about my music at the following websites:

  • My "Behind the Music" blog on Wordpress.
  • Many of the songs on this album originated during FAWM 2010.
  • Several are remakes of songs that appeared on a "Lost" album of mine, apocrypha.

Great, definitely worth listening to if you're into jazzy tunes! Beautiful compositions, neat synth sounds, excellent production. The only thing I find a bit lacking are the drums - the sound, the patterns, etc. - but I'm a drummer, so I may be a bit biased :) The drums are pushed quite far into the background, anyway, so they are probably meant to only provide a bit of a pulse. All in all, another superb album by Bruce I'll definitely be listening to. Especially Downburst, love that one! Also dig the harmonies and chords of The Island and the atmosphere of How Many Miles Beyond :) Great release!

The album begins with excitement and adventure. A spirit of quest. New horizons. We embark on a voyage of discovery. High sails, brisk wind, bright sun. Or hot wheels, a tent in the trunk, the country beckons. Or in our space shields we are injected into outer space. Or the journey is inward listening to The Next Age of Adventure on our headphones, computers or stereos. We travel through many marvelous terrains. The music guides us, holds us, lifts us, comforts us. Riding high or reflections under the moon. Moments when our familiar surroundings disappear and we communicate with eternity. I heard the origins of these tracks as Bruce composed them during FAWM 2010 on Facebook and thought them beautiful. With extensive re-mixing of all the instruments he plays, Bruce has made these tracks more exquisite, adding lustre, polish, depth, clarity to the bright, clear sound that is a hallmark of his music. I distantly hear Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Debussy, among many other influences. This is a superbly produced album with high production values. And what a treat to listen to a whole album of real instruments played by hand and breath.

One of my favorites is "The Last Word is Hope" - the word is hope and the sound was hope - the music was full of sparkle and uplift and a sweet charm that moved into my soul and rested there. I listened to this music for hours and it never grew old. The tunes are warm, gentle jazzy, and became comforting like home is after being out in the storms of life. That sweet, touching guitar was so beautiful and peaceful. And I just wanted to stay there forever!
