About this album

  • Updated: 12/05/2010

This was intended to be a full-length album, but my work and family responsibilities crowded out my recording time and all I finished were these three tracks. There are a number of songs (including the title track) which I would like to publish someday, but all I have right now are some half-baked sketch recordings of them. Perhaps I will revisit the album later when life permits. These three finished tracks are easily the best recordings I have ever made.

  • Rising Sun is inspired by a statement made at the signing of the United States Constitution: "Whilst the last members were signing it Doctr. FRANKLIN looking towards the Presidents Chair, at the back of which a rising sun happened to be painted, observed to a few members near him, that Painters had found it difficult to distinguish in their art a rising from a setting sun. I have said he, often and often in the course of the Session, and the vicisitudes of my hopes and fears as to its issue, looked at that behind the President without being able to tell whether it was rising or setting: But now at length I have the happiness to know that it is a rising and not a setting Sun. (from the Notes of James Madison on September 17, 1787)"
  • Something Wrong is about a friend of mine who disappeared from school because of an acute psychosis, and how this affected those of us who cared about her.
  • Standing on High is about one of my classmates, Brian Shaffer, who disappeared on 1 April 2006. He was last seen at a bar on High Street in Columbus, Ohio. Please visit http://findbrianshaffer.com for more information.
