About this album

  • Updated: 23/07/2007

Here is the long-awaited sound recording from the first ever workshop production of Giles Howe and Katy Lipson's new musical-opera Turkish Delight the Opera. These selections star:

Jane Garrat as Betsy Cohen
Jess Negus as the British Woman
Gareth Bretherton as the British Man
Alexander Albrecht as the Turk

Giles Howe on piano, tyros, and church organ
Katy Lipson on piano

The sound quality isn't the best as this recording was taken from a camcorder filming in a church, but it does document a moment in theatrical history - the birth of Turkish Delight.

Aside from Gareth Bretherton who reprised his role in the second production (the whole of which you can also download from jamendo), this production involves a totally different cast of singers. The roles of the Brit and of Betsy Cohen were written for respectiveley Jane and Gareth's voices. Jane (who incidentally has never had any classical training) is very unlikely to sing the show again, so it's great to have a record of her unforgettable performance.

Please download the other CDs from Turkish Delight the Opera and follow the show on it's journey from inception to... whatever will come next.

A showcase of some of the songs will be performed on August 2nd at Kägelbanan (Södra Teatern, Stockholm, Sweden) as part of the Gay Pride festivities. A UK national tour next summer is also being planned!

Giles and Katy (and also Gareth who played the British Man and Jess who played the British Woman) can be contacted thorugh myspace and can be found at www.myspace.com/turkishdelighttheopera

All songs on this recording were written by Giles Howe, except "Angel Delight", "Who The Fuck Are You", and Good Man" which were written by Giles Howe and Katy Lipson. The song "Jeremiad" was written by Katy Lipson. "Then It All Stopped" is based on a text by Xzanthia and "Another Day Goes By" is based on a theme by Jane Garratt.

Si vous craignez l'opéra contemporain, prenez le temps de découvrir "out of the horse's mouth: grandiose. Mais abstraction faite,c'est du pur bonheur vocal Maestra Jane Garrat, great thanks for your lyric's prestation It's so beautifull
