About this album

  • Updated: 29/06/2010

Jamendo calls it an album, I call it a single with an A and a B side like back in those days of 45 RPM records.

RIAA is the "A" side. I wrote it in 2005 but this recording is from 2010.

It would be good to have a calm, rational public discussion about what kind of system would best serve fairness and the public good in the area of creative expression. But that kind of thing does not fit into a song very well, so this is just a blast of outrage over some of the propaganda that has been deployed by certain parties who are, I believe, interested in preventing such a discussion.

I would like to say that this song came from a dream I had in 2005, in which the Sex Pistols appeared on MTV Unplugged and played this song as a kind of follow-up to their earlier song “EMI”. I'm pretty sure that didn't really happen, but I like the story.

Jack-a-Roe is the "B" side. It is an old folksong about Love, War, and Cross-Dressing. The lyric and tune are actually in the Public Domain as they predate the current unfortunate era.

Liked it. The rhetoric is laid on pretty thick in the first one, but given that I agree with it that's cool! Would make an excellent addition to a soundtrack to any sort of copyleftist documentary. Love to see more along the same lines, perhaps some songs with less blatant but equally potent free culture message. Thanks for the share!
