About this album

  • Updated: 20/08/2010

An Ejoyable Battle of Reggae and Jazz

"Trans'histoire" The bassline strolled while percussion tapped out the rhythm. The vocals were show, sharp and the guitar riffed out the genre around the bass. This was not roots Reggae but more of a Reggae Jazz cross-over(Rezz maybe) that soothed as it smooched along. "Bababubu" A fast paced guitar riff suggested a quick style but the base-line and brass suggested otherwise and kept the pace in check. The warming brass rode slowly and undeterred over the riff. The bass and percussion worked together to assist though the percussion did have a strong presence. "Myst" The slow flow of the whole piece was carried by the brass and a soft electronic riff. This had a more traditional feel and could have been lifted out of the eighties. "Sunny Day" This was a smooth form which I could have at times easily forgotten the genre was Reggae. The riff was very subtle at times, leaving only the walking bass and percussion to suggest the genre. It was musically quite a diverse piece with plenty of changes and intricate use of phrases. The brass melody was quite uplifting and warming. "Question" Another subtle use of the Reggae genre with only a faint riff to suggest the style. A Jazz influence was very present here along with a bit of Spanish through an acoustic guitar. The beautifully slow pace was so very smooth and soothing. Amongst other things, I am a sucker for four things. Blues, Jazz, Reggae and folk. The Reggae form played here with its Jazz connection sits perfectly with me. Can't say it will sit the same with anyone else though. This smooth and refined form of Reggae here had a very soothing style with a great relaxed feel. The percussion and bass were excellent in enforcing the genre were the riffs wondered or crossed over to other styles to create that all important variety. The Jazz flavor was subtly placed, but often the obvious Jazz was battling with the Reggae to enforce their presence. A battle I totally enjoyed.

A wonderful, lightly stimulating, very entertaining, beautiful of compelling, intriguing, blissfully , joyous celebration of jazzy, ska, drumnbass, music. That is wholesome, living and expressive. Let alone upbeat and fun.And chilled to perfection on top. That will leave you feel warm, cosy and in a great mood. As you listen and explore this little gem of album. With great solos from the trumpet and the saxophone heard. And nice melodies from the electric and acoustic guitars also. And a nice beat from the drums..That filters and echoes inside your heart.
