About this album

  • Updated: 03/09/2007
The ninth Auricular album, Zelfmoord (which is Dutch for "suicide", or so I've been told), is a follow-up/remastering of the darkest album previously, Truncatus Omnino.
The same type of story applies: the album tells the story of a deranged pedophile who rapes virgin girls. In this case, however, the story is more shown from the viewpoint of the girl, and more specifically a very young girl who experiences this more than once in her life before she is even 10. The album toward the end takes a turn back to the freak who did this to her, who ends up taking his own life. All is "told" through the droning soundscapes and lyric-less music.
This album is not for the weak and is meant to be extremely dark, very disturbing, and unsettling.
The tracks of this album are published under a Creative Commons licence, check the licence associated to each track.

That has to be the grimmest preamble I've ever read as the concept of any album. However, it is a subject to be adressed, as it has been since the beginning of time. A friend of mine calls it inescapable 'animalism'. I call it at least, a lack of control. The tricky thing is that there is nothing that can satisfy the natural balance of things after such trauma, not even the self-sacrifice of the offender. Anyway, off soapbox. I love the album anyway, and glad to see it's presence on the commons. Nice to see the talented Auricular circulating amongst us, as well as Mssrs Rhys & Fulber. Makes it more like home, and strangely, as transcendental as your music is, listening to it here in this virtual environment, is quite a grounding. Nice to see you, nice to hear you. What I will say is that I liked the album anyway for exactly the reasons you stated. Now I'm in the know, it elucidates and releases a part of me into the wild yonder. Thanks.

I have to agree with Ivan1984, this is one of the most disturbing description I've ever read for a music. I'm not even sure it is a good idea to write things like that, not because of the subject, but because I like to make my own story while I listen to that kind of music. Anyhow, the album is great, very dark and heavy and that's exacly what I'm looking for at the moment. Too bad I know what this is about, I can't try to imagine it, that would be so wrond :X I guess it's my first music spoiler !!

This album is pure dark magic, I was disappointed to see the first track "Prolegomenon", the creepiest, missing from this download. I did manage to find it in my old back ups, but new listeners are missing a key part of the album. That is the only reason it's not a 10.

This album is the one i am searching for years! It never crosses the line but stays interesting and dark. I like all the songs of the album so no special favorite here. No need to prelisten if you are into real dark atmosphere's wihout basslines!
