Subterrestrial's "H-21" is inspired by early 20th century exotic dancer Mata Hari, who was executed for treason in France during World War I after being accused of spying for Germany. Subterrestrial uses harsh, 8-bit noise and heavily aliased exotic rhythms to explore her often violent life and tragic death. It is believed that she was wrongly accused of her crime and made a scapegoat. H-21 was her alleged codename.

I love power noise, I find it very therapeutic. That it should have a point as such, adds a greater sense than even what is potentially imposed upon in terms of the listening experience. At it's best you will end up disturbing the atmosphere, though this very demanding genre is not easily tolerated in it's overt expression. Here even in the second track, I found not only the exotic, but a sense of the erotic. So, there is a fantastic subtlety hidden amongst the apparent mere barrage of noise. That is when this style becomes so fantastic, it can be firm and fair. Each dark corner needs it's equilibrium. As 'thekalle' has mentioned, there is a richness of detail here that remind one of that epic atmosphere created with Eraserhead, though without necessarily tapping into it, like a commercialized sequelization. This album stands up in it's own right. Simple titles because the amount of words that would be needed to give it a sufficient amount of descriptives is not possible. This is an outstanding album, certainly one of a few on the edges of chaos that represent potentially paradigmatic changes in how we truly redefine art. True art is that which helps to attain a balanced intregration of informational flow, a sonic semiosis. It is beyond subjectivism, because this touches on ancient rhythms of life, and anyone's place in it. Exotic or not, though somehow that is just one of the many transmissions within this work. Superb!

sometimes, there are things you do not expect... and this album is one of these things. earlier that day i was talking in the forum about the inflationary use of the label 'industrial', and the great misinterpretation of the meaning of it. and now there is an album, that is NOT labeled as industrial and it's closer to the point than so many others, pretending to do industrial music. i, as a great THROBBING GRISTLE fan since...ever, am really happy to find this jewel among the waste. spinebending noise-loops, machine-like rythms colliding with droning noises in an almost perfect and 100% unique way - one of best releases of the last months/years/aeons. creating a dark, unsettling atmosphere - as in a David Lynch movie (Eraserhead lurking in the shadows) - brilliant. crowned by a very cool production this is a must-have-release for everyone who is open-minded for this kind of music. if there is a cd - i definitely will buy it!!! so, clean your ears, turn up your amplifiers and dive into this great wall of sound. and take care of yourself...you might get lost.
