About this album

  • Updated: 28/09/2007

Spirit Jewel is a play on a word. The Vox Variations were all based on three short clips
from an impromptu guitar recording and a single syllable of voice.

The idea was to experiment with those three very short clips and meld them into something remotely resembling music.

Primarily texture-based, it was only through manipulating the audio with software that any changes in tempo, timbre, or pitch occurred. Even 'clipping' artifacts became part of the production, as they seemed to lend themselves to some interesting percussive sounds in the arrangements.

There was to be a third volume, but I never completed work on it. I've since been immersed in new sorts of sound projects.

Great very relaxed excursions on sound. Ideal passing for quiet sleepless nights indeed. How simple tones can evoke a dense space surrounding and moving you. Great how this artist can maintain his rest. I can see the smile behind treating the waves and all daily stress disappears. Had a great time listening to all 3 albums and recognize the structuring and layering. Hosanna to the software that enables us to make simple sounds moving, uplifting, universal, and also giving a very relaxed state of mind. Yes i'm fully aware.... thanks
