A surprising album - hard to put a finger on, but definitely well composed and interesting. Nuances of classic jazz feel with off-kilter rhythms and drums blend with synths and guitars for an undoubtedly fusion feel that picks up the pace nicely.

The songs progess slowly, but inevitably, like the passing of waves making up a tide. Takes some time to listen to, but the overall effect is surprisingly meditative. An unquestionably worthwhile album.

This sounds like a very melancholy Don McLean. Another artist that comes to mind when listening to this album is Andrew Bird.

Alex has a lovely voice for singing this kind of folk music. The lyrics are very good but the music is a bit bare. In my opinion collaboration with other musicians would result in an exceptional album.

I really like this album but unfortunately the lack of variation in style means that I have marked it down to a 7.

The jazz tag is misleading.

This record should not be called ‘demo’ at all. Comparing it with other Jamendo albums (no offence ;-) its a decent full-length album. Fonetik is a very skillful jazz band, and it’s simply pleasure for ears to listen to such LP.
About the pieces… Dolorosa is a guitar and flute chill-out. Free gun, a crazy funky trip with amazing speech samples (an account with a free gun!). Poursuite – it’s too short to evolve into a serious piece, but still it sounds nice. Bigdaddy – an interesting ambient intro, and then a little bit to rock-drive for me, I would prefer it to be more electro jazz. Claris – it’s more jazzy, but I still lack some turntablist or sample craze.
Ok., I didn’t want to compare it to Revolution Void, but I will.;-) The band mentioned can mashup electro with jazz in such proportions that it’s almost a new electrojazz style. Fonetik is more straight jazz with some samples and ambient keyboards, so it’s not that ‘revolutional’ ;-), although it’s fun to listen to their music. It’s a good record, but not sensational, that’s why an eight and not ten his time. It’s only my humble opinion, of course, you must remember his.
Cover is nice, more electro than the music (ok. I’m getting boring ;-), and I would love to listen to them live as some lounge act.

galaktycznyzwiad.

Allison has a beautiful voice and a great style in her presentation. She is certainly an "undiscovered" talent.

I was quite surprised to see Gordon’s Suitcase - Indevelopment on this album.

Gordon’s Suitcase are a South African jazz band. I was at their CD launch party about a year ago and have a autographed copy of their first album "Good Girls Like Good Music". Indevelopment is the first track from the album and is very laid back compared to the remix here.

See their web site at http://www.gordonssuitcase.com/ or http://www.myspace.com/gordonssuitcase

I have not had a serious listen to MoShang's efforts yet but will update this review and provide a rating soon. Initial impressions are good though :-)
