Jamendo Advertising Revenue Share

How does it work?

The artists can register to an optional program that will enable them to earn a share of the global advertising revenue on Jamendo which is based on their number of page views.

This program was in beta phase from January to March 2007. The goal was to receive feedback from the artists to improve the revenue share system.

Why does Jamendo share the advertising revenue?

We can't guarantee that artists will someday be able to make a living off their presence on Jamendo but we think it's fair to share the advertising revenue. Without the artists Jamendo wouldn’t have become so popular.

How do you share the revenue?

Jamendo shares 50% of the advertising revenue with the artists that sign up to the program.

The sharing formula is very simple. We count the number of page views per artist (included are album pages, lyrics pages and review pages) then we divide it by the number of page views of for artists registered to the program. This way each artist knows the percentage of page views they account for. They earn the 50% share from this.

Example:

An artist achieves 2,000 page views in January 2007. The sum of all page views for all registered artists was 50,000. Therefore the artist accounts for 4% of all page views in January 2007. If the Jamendo advertising revenue is €2000 for that month then the artist will earn €40.

How does Jamendo pay artists?

When the advertisers pay their bills, 50% of the net revenue (minus tax and commission) is distributed to Jamendo virtual accounts of all registered artists who have agreed to the program.

The payment of the artists will only happen after we have received money from the advertisers. The average payment delay of advertisers is approximately 3 months.

How can I increase the revenue?

The revenue is linked to the number of page views. Artists have several options to increase their revenue:

I'm an artist and I'm not interested in making money. What can I do?

This program is optional and is turned off by default. Just don't register to it.

There is the option to register to the program and donate your earnings to a non-profit organisation of your choice!

What happens to the advertising revenue of artists that didn't register to this program?

Jamendo only shares the advertising revenue with artists that have registered to this program.

Where is the shared advertising revenue from?

We share all of our banner (image and text) ads, even on the pages that are not specific to any artist!

I registered on the 17th of this month. When does my registration to the program begin?

When you register to the program it considers you a registered artist from the 1st of the current month. If you unregister from the program your registration is considered finished from the 1st of the current month.
