I downloaded this a week or so back and hadn't got round to listening to it properly until this weekend, but now I have, and it is by far the best of Doug's albums so far, the pig saga is a great twist on the nursery rhyme, its intelligent and witty and most importantly a blinding piece of prog rock, the last track ( A Dream of Fire and Ice ) I also particularly liked.
Doug's keyboards are coming on in leaps and bounds and can be favorably compared to Wakeman or Emerson both in competence and in texture.
I love this album it is pure prog rock, keep up the good work.
P.S. Maybe its time to start seriously looking for a main stream publisher.
Having downloaded Songs For The Wild At Heart, and liked it I thought I'd give this a whirl, the improvement between the second and fourth album is tremendous, much more professional, this seems a very much darker album and reminds me ( in tone ) of floyds The Wall, keep up the good work!
P.S. Love The Shadow over Merthyr!
This album is truly excellent!
That said some of the intros need a little work ( the first few bars of Traveller spring to mind) and the album sounds a bit like it was mastered in someones bedroom, and thats all the bad things you can say about this album, overall the feel ( though no specific parts ) are very reminiscent of All About Eve, though the first track ( Traveller, my personal favorite ) would not be out of place on a Yes album!
Excellent guitar work and the lead female singer is a sort of cross between Mary Hopkin, Julie Covington and Sally Oldfield, the best tracks are Traveller, Babes In The Wood and the title track.
Once again this is a terrific album !
Download it NOW, put it on repeat, pour a glass of wine, shut your eyes and sink into the music, go on you know you want to!
P.S. Lets have some more!!
Listening to this now, very good and I will try some of his other albums, very Tangerine Dream! (Do I detect the dulcet tones of a mellatron?)
