I've listened to this album all the way through 3 times in the last 5 hours. Every time it ends, I'm disappointed because I want more. If that's not a mark of a great album, I don't know what is.
My current favorite on the album is "Falling in Love." Autotune is all the rage these days, but the song doesn't sound like everything else out there. I'm a sucker for autotune, anyway.
A great album. My only complaint is that it was too short. And now I'm off to listen to more Tab albums...
Viola just keeps on getting better. This latest crop of singles have just been fantastic. Moody, spacey, and beautifully melodic. Keep up the good work, guys!
I think I like this album. I love the instrumentation. Simple, but very effective. I'm not sold on the vocals yet. On one hand, they have this great honest feeling. It sounds like very little was done to tweak them after they were recorded, and it sounds like the vocalist isn't trying to make her voice sound any different than it naturally is. At the same time, this lack of polish on the vocals takes away some of the potential depth.
Overall, though, I really like this album. I think the vocals will grow on me. Looking forward to more releases.
I've always enjoyed bands that can successfully combine rock and electro. The guitars and synth elements complement each other very well on this album, and the drums carry the groove well. I really like the vocals. There's a great far-away, spaced-out sound to them that fits with the overall tone of the album. Well done.
I don't think I've ever listened to a BertycoX album and been disappointed. The songs have great grooves and good interaction between the various musical layers. They stay interesting from start to finish, never leaving me bored, but never overwhelming me, either. Another solid work from someone I consider to be one of Jamendo's best electronic artists.
As I look through Viola's catalogue of albums and singles, I'm struck by how few people seem to be listening to them. That's really a shame, because these guys are fantastic.
Sea Curtain is a great addition to the catalogue. I've already used the word epic to describe an album today, but I'm going to use it again - this song just has that great epic feel to it. I love the heavy and plodding lead guitar.
I usually don't like to review stuff that has more than just a few reviews, but I just had to say somewhere that this album may be the most epic thing I've heard in years. There are so many different styles, but they all flow together seamlessly.
Amazing.
Great compositions. Very soothing. I loved the wind chimes at the beginning of Ace. At times, I was reminded of Vangelis.
I'm realizing I can't say very much about this album without gushing out really bad writing. But I did thoroughly enjoy it. Glad I was introduced to this.
Thoroughly enjoyed it. At times I was reminded of Kid A Radiohead with the guitar from The Bends. "andl" at times reminded me of Eric Clapton's guitar style. The saxophone (That was a saxophone, right? I'm horrible at recognizing brass and woodwind instruments.) was an awesome addition, especially in the first couple songs.
When this song started out, I was immediately reminded of Say Hi, and that was a good start. Then the drums kicked in, and the song took on a sound of its own. I love it. I never thought using that kind of vocal distortion would actually work in a beautiful, spacey song like this. Well done.
I need to check out the longer albums, but it's getting late and I need some sleep. I'm looking forward to hearing the other material.
