"Oh please, not another sisssinger-songwriter whining his gloom on two and a half chords" (Marketing gurus say ironic self-deprecation can be a good way of captivating attention...)
Now, what if, instead of flirting with Colbie Caillat (I have to admit I'd do the same if I was in his shoes), Jason Mraz was having a ball with John Cleese and Gregory House? Not so sexy, sure, but if you can't trap flies with vinegar, it makes the fuel for not too bad songs.
After spending time in a punk band for whom covering a Ramones song was way too difficult in the 80's (Moïse et les Manches de Pioches), an avant-garde-arty band full of musical potential but with heads full of shit in the 90's (La Vierge du Chancelier Rolin) and of an acoustic folk-rock band (Ceilí Moss) that started by playing "the drunken rover of the County Down in the jar" but did not dwell on it since 1996, I've decided that the midst of life was the right time to give my own personal selfish material a bit of fresh air.
Where shall it lead us? Probably not that far, but does it have to?
