From song to song I knew not what to expect, and it was good. Download this celebration of piracy and rejoice.
This is a super-different and very enjoyable record. The fusion of gypsy tunes and heavy metal really impresses me a lot. Very well done.
Special stuff it is. Cheers!
Great album. I like the heavy, thick tone of the tracks and the german synth work. The vocals sound good to me too. Very gut!
Metal, jungle and breakcore. What more could you ask for?
Although such a mix of genres could be expected to blow up in someone's face, I think Burglecut does an excellent job of holding the rhythm down and keeping the progression going.
The first track is unreal, awesome, magickal, and strong like a bull. And it's always good to hear Sepultura samples!
Track two is a bit slower but right on time with the metal guitar samples coming to the fore nicely. The end is rather intense, building up the drums nicely.
The next track has a bit of high-speedcore feel to it. It would be a great track to go nuts to at a rave, I suspect. I just love the tempo in this track. There's a killer breakdown involved too and a good outro.
Track four starts out in a controlled fashion, with strings lending a lot of atmosphere to the track in it's early stages. The breaks that follow are technically awesome, and not overdone at all in my humble opinion. Towards the middle things get somewhat hectic and then a good strong beat gets dropped. I'm not sure this track quite works for me. There's something not quite right here that I can't put my finger on. Still, it's certainly not a bad track.
The final song is all jungle, breaks and agression. Once again, this is somehow not quite as enjoyable as the first three tracks, but hey, you can't please everyone.
I think this is an amazing piece of work, and I take my hat off to Burglecut for his mighty effort in putting this together.
The first track has a nice creepy tone to it, with a grimy structure that I like. If there was a bit more to the song, a few more changes and such, I would have enjoyed it a little bit more.
The second track has some of those changes that I would have liked in the former track. Quite well done, if you ask me. I really liked the short breakdown before the bassline gets dropped.
Track three is great at the start. It's a little bit like the stuff I make. As always, I'd like a little more variance though. It does have a good atmosphere about it, which probably gets the track my vote for best song on the record.
The next track is really cool. It's chilled-out with nice bass wobbles. Rub-a-dub.
The last track reminds of me of Eskyboy's stuff a little bit. It's got a good broken beat.
Overall these are good tracks by a producer still learning some songcraft, if I may say so.
When I listen to this album I wish I was in a warehouse with very large speakers up the front. Sometimes I feel a little impatient while waiting for the body of the tracks to truly drop in, but the high notes that fill the gaps are good enough, so I don't mind the wait. There is a lot of atmosphere, but I do love a good strong beat when I'm at a rave, which is where this music would shine, in my humble opinion. All in all, very respectable and pretty epic.
Good track(s). It was nice of you to make it/them for your friend. I love the strong acid bassline when it kicks in.
This is a wonderful record. Hats off gentlemen!
My favourite tracks are Rag Doll Physics and Wedding March for a Bullet.
I've listened to the album about 40 times so far.
Thank you very much! Keep up the great work DSO.
I've heard these songs in the context of "Codenames", so they lose a bit of their meaning on me when I listen to this earlier and shorter album. Having said that, they are the stronger tracks from "Codenames", and "Neutral Equalizer" is somewhat more effective and energetic for that reason. The cover-art is pretty nice too, if a little bewildering. It has something to with the Zodiac, but what that might be only B.O.Y.L. could know.
I think it's a great little album and I'd like to hear some more upbeat tracks like these from B.O.Y.L. in the not-too-distant future.
