Love this, just love it, every track of it. Nothing more to say here. ;-)
Wish there was more of Derek Oldman to listen to. Lots.
Ideal lounge club music, I like it much. I'm having an easy time picturing myself on a barstool watching a live band performing, nodding my head to the rhythm. Far too few clubs have live music like this anymore...
Especially the first track reminds me of an authentic recording from some club location -- sound equipment somewhat worn down, location not ideally suited for music performances... The singer should demand a better mike. Unless, of course, the effect is "made" on purpose to add to this impression of live-ness -- in that case the sound engineer deserves his shoulder patted in appreciation and his next drink on my tab. ;-)
Mostly when I listen to music, I do so to support or create a certain mood, to steer my (day)dreams into a certain direction. This album is just great at such a job, especially when you're into nightmares.
I was brave (or paralyzed?) enough to bear through the whole album in a single session. ;-) Especially the "Horrhoe", "Frostbitten Heartbeat" and "Wither" tracks gave me the goosebumps. I can't quite put my finger on something specific, but played in the right place this could easily horrify people beyond sanity. Great thanks for "Fragile" being there and being the last track, which helped me find my way into the light back from that pitch black, cold, damp, scary place the previous tracks pulled me into.
Don't get me wrong here -- this is not bad in a musical or technical sense at all -- quite the opposite is the case. It's bad in its very nature in that it induces fear in the boldest of hearts. I can only recommend leaving your eyes open and the lights turned on while listening, I myself will try to avoid ever listening to this again. But I am sure to remember this piece of art as very well done, and of great power.
