Superb, as usual!
Once again, squeaky clean production and great tracks. I'll rate it 9 out of 10 only because I wish the whole record as well as my favourite tracks (Arrival and Endless Driving) were a bit longer :)
Keep up the good work, guys.
A superb album, I love it!
But. (hehe, there's always a "but" or even "however"), I only have one remark that I obviously haven't taken into account when deciding on the rating :)
There seems to be some serious clipping going on in the track "Love Is Invincible (Piano Version)" - at least on my comp. I'll also listen to the tracks on my hi-fi when my wife and neighbours let me get away with it, and perhaps report back :) As far as my experience goes, clipping is terribly easy to achieve with piano samples, so maybe it's even really there. Technicalities: I use a RME HDSPe AIO card and Sennheiser HD650 headphones when I'm not able to fire up the monitors and pester the neighbours (which, sadly, is most of the time) :)) The mixer shows the signal should be fine, so nothing in the red there, plus most other tracks are squeaky clean (everything except No Weep, which also seems to have problems).
So, No Weep... My headphones also show some clipping at approximately 4:13 (at the point where the piano chord hits - once again, the piano seems to be the culprit).
Wow, I love Two Worlds! Awesome. I absolutely adore the guitar and drums.
Love Is Invincible is great in terms of melody and harmonies. Both versions, of course, despite the potential clipping in the piano version :))
4 Just One Day - superb. Love all the guitars, the very disciplined bass, the mood, synths, everything. Hats off. And whenever this track touches a major chord, there seems to be a purpose to it :D
The Darkest Night: epic.
Electric: wow.
New Hope: great atmosphere, love the nylon (acoustic?) guitar. Niiiiice.
Sunrise At Noon: Once upon a time Frank Zappa asked the terribly complicated question: does humour belong in music? I think it does - if it can be understood. And this bluegrass tune does the trick for me :D
Just like vol. 1 of 2 - great!
Again - though this is coming from a drummer, so feel free to disregard the remark - the only thing I think could be better are the drums :) Like the percussion, though.
Anyway, outstanding compositions and smooth production.
Especially love those mysterious Strange Lights :) Dreams is also great, superb synths and overall mood. But I guess my favourite track on this album would be Beware the Age of the Machine - after listening to both volumes it was really nice to be stirred up by a bit of distortion :))
Great, definitely worth listening to if you're into jazzy tunes!
Beautiful compositions, neat synth sounds, excellent production.
The only thing I find a bit lacking are the drums - the sound, the patterns, etc. - but I'm a drummer, so I may be a bit biased :) The drums are pushed quite far into the background, anyway, so they are probably meant to only provide a bit of a pulse.
All in all, another superb album by Bruce I'll definitely be listening to. Especially Downburst, love that one! Also dig the harmonies and chords of The Island and the atmosphere of How Many Miles Beyond :)
Great release!
I completely agree with Musictomyears's review. This album (much like Vol.1 and I've Got An Arrow Pointing single) contains many great ideas... But due to the poor sound quality I see the tracks more as outlines than finished work. Nothing wrong with that in itself, of course... But I really hope at least some of these works get produced properly, they most definitely deserve it.
I love it.
The only thing I'd like to see improved are the drums: this project could use a session drummer, if not a band member (the drums strike me as programmed a bit unrealistically, and the samples are not all that good. Invest in BFD2 and a very spacious hard drive :))
But otherwise the whole thing (especially the growl) rocks! :)
Hey,
first off, I don't want to pour gasoline on any "flame wars", for I couldn't care less about them.
However, I really don't see how some people can't find "metal" elements in this. You see, "metal" and "rock" elements are just elements: this is definitely not a record adhering to and restricted by genres. Yes, it's obviously home-produced, the vocals have room for improvement (although sadly I don't understand French all that well, therefore I can't comment on the lyrics).
However, the album is full of odd-time beats, which is very cool in the time when everything (mainstream) seems to be bound to a 1/1 time signature... And the tracks are full of lucid phrases, which may, however, profit from live musicians capable of bringing them to the fullest of their potential.
I agree that the album sounds a bit naive because of a few sounds used (which kind of resemble general midi) and the whole project might profit from a better mixing and recording equipment.
But all in all I think it's a great effort, and I love the banjo and the ranting guitars :))
I hope you'll keep on working.
Cheers
