This album isn't bad. It's not. It's a bit like home-made mashed potatoes. It's kinda tasty, but at the end of the day, it's just potatoes. A full meal it does not make.
There's some creativity here, but there simply isn't enough variance within the tracks themselves. If you're looking for tracks to relax to, with a simple, monotonous drum beat and some admittedly interesting jazz organ and electric guitar bits, this might be your album.
The artist tags this album as 'lounge' and 'instrumental'. Those are two adjectives I generally like, but not here. Perhaps this album is 'lounge' in the sense that it is best left playing in the background of some establishment; it simply does not maintain interest when it is the direct focus of one's listening.
The songs are unoriginal. None of them do anything I haven't heard elsewhere. There is no flavor that sets it off as unlike anything else.
Not worth it.
It doesn't get much better than this.
Tryad is a group of individuals who have never met one another, yet make music. This album makes it quite clear that this the long-distance nature of their creative relationship is no disadvantage. The work is a musical collaboration of twenty individuals who all contribute to an amazing work of diversity.
There are strong techno influences here, and thus the work may not appeal to all (particularly those with acoustic sensibilities), but there is a certain 'something' present in the music here that simultaneously makes use of the various genre-avenues Tryad participates in, and transcends those avenues. Take notice, download, and enjoy.
A fantastic album, marrying a vocal freedom that reminds one of Regina Spektor, with complementary instrumentation that draws heavily from French folk music.
As I do not speak French, I did not understand the words, but the natural beauty and melody of the language itself shines through the wonderful voice of Ottilie, in a way that transcends linguistic barriers. Heartily recommended.
