This album practically bleeds energy; enough to make any ADHD kid on a sugar high proud. The beats are not only catchy, but they just seem to bounce around. It's kind of hard to explain in words, but once you listen to it, you'll understand, especially when you hear "Move Your Soul." When I first heard it, it was like being smacked in the face, but in a good way. It draws you in with the, again, raw energy, and whenever it starts to feel like the song is looping, it throws something new in to make it interesting again.
Not only are the songs exciting to listen to, but they are actually incredibly varied while retaining the feel of energy. Another example is "ce produit fait de l effet." When you first hear it, you wonder if Cypher Tales changed style, but it totally works out this way.
The weakest track has to be "Mr. White," but it's shoehorned around two more great songs, "The Glitchy Silver Horse" and "The Beautiful," respectfully.
Not only is the music great, but the album art is amazing, too!

The Phase - Dogma

The Phase

Dogma

17/01/10

Dark and foreboding, "Dogma" is awesome.
I'll jump on the bandwagon and say that there are moments when it sounds like early Prodigy, but that's all it is: moments, almost like its paying homage to the band. Once those moments are done, "Dogma" goes back to doing is thing.

The beats are catchy and powerful. In songs like "Terror," it draws you in with a dark force, like you know something is going to happen, and you want to see it happen.

Not all the album is dark, however. "Torification" is nice and, when compared to the rest of the album, mellow. Its a nice breather, and keeps the energy of the album flowing. But when its moment is over, its back to the overwhelming feeling of power with "Fallen." "Prophase" and "1990" also do great jobs of giving the listener a breather from all the "dark energy" the album bleeds.

With all this quoting of songs, I find it very hard to find a favorite track. There's so much to like here, it really depends on what mood your in to like.

It also helps that the album art is amazing. When you first see it, it scares you. A mushroom cloud makes for a very dark album cover, but the style in which it's made is awesome as well. Its good to see album art and music go hand in hand.

The Good:
I loved The Phase, and when I heard about Insane Prototype, I downloaded "Patches" as fast as I could. You can hear the similarities between the two albums, and its great. "Patches" is strong and unforgiving. The guitar riffs, the drums, everything just blasts, and f***ing rocks. I would say it's "raw," but there is refinement to it as well. Its not just power chords and drum bashing. The piano on the Inter- and Outer-lude is a great touch to the tracks, and adds a unique flavor.

The Bad:
"Patches" is ten minutes. I'm looking forward to more.

The Ugly:
While the entire album is a powerhouse, the vocals are the only thing underpowered. I had to mess with the graphic equalizer to hear the vocals, and doing that ruined the tracks; the guitars and drums don't take kindly to being nerfed. I recommend bringing the vocals to the front of the next album, so they aren't overpowered. I am not, however, saying the vocals are bad: its your style and I more than respect it. I can hear the vocals, I can't understand them.
